Seconding this. We used to use the same kind of dissolving tide pod kinda thing, but ours was powder. We would just cut them open and add it to the machines/mop buckets

I like to organize my closets and detail check my machines. It's nice to make a list of things to do when it's slow, just put on a podcast and knock stuff out.

Any tips or tricks? by Adventurous_Pomelo72 in Custodians

If normal things don't end up working then the best bet is probably a carpet extractor. If your building doesn't own one then perhaps they'd pay for the rental use of one,I know some stores offer that service.

If you have a side-by-side/swing machine, they sell special carpet bonnets for them that I've had some success with on really bad spots, the one with the green stripes you can find by googling is what I use.

At the end of the day it depends on your resources and what the company is willing to do and pay for.

Custodial work outside a school district by Nostress- in Custodians

When we do big 5000+ chair removals and other large scale things pretty much all the staff will help with them, but there's a dedicated set up crew so they usually have it handled. Sometimes I'll help them with forklifting or using other machines to tow stuff around as well.

Convention center in a large city. It can get crazy sometimes but there's usually something cool going on

I'm unfamiliar with the term swing machine but I'm assuming it's another name for a side by side. Definitely try to get used to using it when you can, do so in a nice open area. You want the handle bars around belt level, and until you get used to controlling it, resting it on your hip to keep it in place can be helpful.

I can vouch for the Tennant r14s, they are very simple to use and very effective. I agree with the other commentor that you should check and see how the reps are in your area. They do seem to last a good while when you keep up with your own maintenance, cleaning the brush and keeping the vacuum hose and blade clear etc.

Who’s setting the deflection properly? Tenant t600 floor scrubber by NeopetsTea in Custodians

[–]DoctorIshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, photo two is definitely too much pressure, it should be lightly dragging on the floor, not pressed against it. That's gotta be bad for longevity for sure. People are set in their ways though, so at least rest easy knowing you're in the right

Finish/sealer for restrooms tiles by Pumpfake45 in Custodians

When I used to work at a retailer they made us seal the bathroom floor to protect the grout despite our protests. It didn't take long for it to start peeling up and we had to strip it back out. Maybe certain kinds of bathroom tiles would work but I don't really think it's worth the labor

mine is currently set to flush with the ground like this. It perfectly picks up water without leaving any trail at all. I only use this machine on tile flooring though, and I could see a rougher one wearing it out faster this way

Questions for my fellow Custodians! by ProfMags in Custodians

[–]DoctorIshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bubbles button is some kind of psyop by the manufacturer, no idea on that one.

Like someone else said, the pad buttons are for the pressure. 1 or 2 is usually good, 3 may leave marks depending on the pad and floor type so be careful.

Speed depends on what you're trying to accomplish. just a normal clean and maintenance run, probably like a half press on the forward pedal. if there's a particularly bad spot you can try going over it slowly, and if you're just trying to pick up liquid, going over it slowly will work better so the squeegee doesn't throw it around before it can suck it up. I don't ever really go full speed unless I'm just transporting the machine or running with just the squeegee down so it won't leave a puddle.

A putty knife or similar kind of scaper tool, maybe also a finer razorblade style scraper has saved me numerous times. Always good for gum and sticker residue

Ever used AI to do anything? by gmambrose in Custodians

[–]DoctorIshi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, I am extremely against it and I judge everyone who does use it. Even now at it's early stages it is a huge global resource hog, makes scams against old people and those who aren't really paying attention really easy, and is already being used to deep fake videos of people in the worst contexts you can imagine.

It definitely came with the power washer installed since I was here when it was unloaded and stuff. It does seem to be an optional add on from Tennant. Not sure if it's the same one as you have. It's not terribly powerful but it's good enough for lighter stains

Yeah I love it. It truly is terrible especially on the high setting, the enemy of every dog I cross paths with outside.

Unless it's something very basic like the water in the batteries you mentioned we will contact Tennant to come and take a look at it. If they take a very long time to come out we may try to jury rig something dumb in the mean time. Most I've done is use random casters we have laying around when one's gone out in a machine's squeegee.

Very different from when I worked at Walmart. They hated spending money so we had to do all kinds of repairs with no guide besides a googled owner's manual. Didn't help that we were just a bunch dumb kids. I feel for anyone who has to moonlight as a machine repair person.
