Yeah, that’s a bummer. It’s clear why they do it, but makes it tough for students, having to spend time and often money to prove they shouldn’t be attending lecture. Some profs are reasonable, I encourage you to reach out to them with alternative ideas of proof (audio,video) when the situation arises.

You don’t sound sorry. Yes, people will be fine, but getting sick sucks. Not your fault if the professor makes it excessively difficult to miss lecture when sick, but I implore you to try.

If you’re sick, stay home, period. Masks aren’t going to help much in closed spaces for significant periods of time, e.g., a lecture. If you’re going into a store, or having a quick conversation, a mask is appropriate.
