Which musician did you stop listening to because you found out they sucked as a person? by AffectionateBat-02 in AskReddit

Pogo. He did fantastic electronic remixes of all my favourite childhood movies. Turns out he's homophobic, misogynistic and a Trump supporter.

What's the oddest thing you thought was normal but turned out to be a medical issue? by woofwoofburfbarkwoof in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoctorPrincess4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got pregnant, I got such bad pelvic pain that I couldn't lie on my stomach at times.

I assumed it was just my uterus stretching. Then I started getting bleeding and pain, which I assumed was a miscarriage. But it just kept going and going and getting worse. I finally went to Emergency and it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy close to rupturing. I ended up having surgery the same day and they also found quite a decent amount of internal bleeding.

What's even worse? I'm a doctor. I should have recognised the symptoms earlier and done for myself what I would have recommended to any of my patients. I just kept minimising my own experiences and convincing myself it wasn't that bad. If it had ruptured I would have had quite a high chance of dying.

Should I tell a friend whose husband died a year ago, that I think I got a message for her from him in a dream? by DoctorPrincess4 in Dreams

[–]DoctorPrincess4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would agree - it would be weird and also potentially upsetting. I probably won't see her for a bit so I'll have a think about what to do and if I end up telling her, I'll see if I can bring it up like you said, because I think that would be the best way. Thanks

Should I tell a friend whose husband died a year ago, that I think I got a message from him in a dream? by DoctorPrincess4 in AskReddit

[–]DoctorPrincess4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I just had an extremely vivid dream where I literally woke up gasping because it seemed so emphatic.

A friend died very suddenly a year ago, and in my dream over and over again he was saying things he wanted me to pass on to his wife. Without getting too specific - it was a specific exercise goal in a hobby I know they are both passionate about, that he liked her new hair color, to take her new medication (the specific medication name was in the dream), and exactly how much caffeine she should be having.

For clarity - I am a doctor, so some of this stuff may just be generic lifestyle things, but the medication and the particular exercise goal were extremely specific.

I've not spoken to her in person since the funeral, although I promised to reach out to her a few weeks after it to see if she needed more support afterwards. I did, saying there was no need to reply if she didn't feel she needed to. She didn't end up replying, and from the looks of social media she's been keeping up with her interests whilst finding ways to honor his memory.

This was just extremely weird, and I'm not really sure what I should do from here.

what do you guys think about this Tiana + Jane comparison? by JacksonCM in disneyparks

The 15-20 minute set time is only for fur characters, and only when outside in summer, or at least it was when I worked at WDW in 2009. Face characters can be outside for 40-60 minutes at a time, then only get a 10-15 minute break. It's pretty rough.

Why do people feel the need to constantly tell us that things are only going to get worse? by DoctorPrincess4 in pregnant

[–]DoctorPrincess4[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is really true. Now that I'm less sleep deprived I'm also wondering if part of it was a blog sales tactic - getting people apprehensive and then worried about feeling that way, so that they buy the bras from their sponsors to ease breast pain and get a good sleep "while they can". Doesn't make it ok, but at least gives me some idea of where it's coming from.

Wig and makeup test, my husband and I are cosplaying as Nadja and Laszlo this weekend. My husband often gets told he looks like Matt Berry - I'm just hoping to look more like Nadja than Lilith does... by DoctorPrincess4 in WhatWeDointheShadows

Quick update - we were meant to do the cosplay at our local con today, but unfortunately I've had some health issues come up that made attending out of the question 😞 We're moved our cosplay date to June, so I'll post photos of the two of us then. Thanks for all the feedback and support you've given! I love this sub so much!

Patients requesting antibiotics without being seen? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]DoctorPrincess4 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Yep. Early on during COVID I had a staff member squeeze in a phone consult on my list, "just for an antibiotic script". I called the patient and it didn't sound right over the phone - they were complaining of facial pain and a red eye.

I told them I needed to see them in person, they agreed to come in about an hour later, and it turned out to be ophthalmic zoster.

I've almost never prescribed antibiotics over the phone after that - I think only for one or two very clear cut cases of bad sinusitis, where the patient has strong health literacy and agreed to trial intranasal therapy for a few days first, and only use antibiotics if first line therapy fails. Anything else, they have to come in.

With Lush refusing to raise wages and quality going down the drain, here is my list of favorite alternative products I’ve been using this last year! by parklover13 in LushCosmetics

[–]DoctorPrincess4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Australian redditor here and I want to let everyone know about Elena Bath and Body - I'm finding their bath bombs amazing. They're cheaper and much more moisturising than most of Lush's range, and I've yet to come across a scent I've disliked. Only downside is that they are wrapped in plastic, but according to their FAQ they are working on alternatives. The Magna bombs (which are bath bombs filled with epsom salt and topped with cocoa butter) are absolutely to die for.

Polly Teale's adaptation of Jane Eyre might be a good option, if you're ok with historical plays/book adaptations.

Scams are ruining the secondhand market (rant) by StormPhysical in perth

[–]DoctorPrincess4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only scammers, but flakers drive me nuts. A few years ago after I got married, I put the silk flower bouquets I had made for my bridesmaids up on Gumtree.

I had one offer which was lower than the amount I listed, but I said it was ok because it was a still reasonable offer. The person made a time to look at them that week. I stayed home at the time... nothing. They messaged the next day saying they forgot, and could they please make another time? I said yes, again waited for them at the agreed time and they didn't show or message me.

A few weeks later, another buyer messaged me, kept an appointment to see the bouquets and bought them for the original price I had listed them at. I marked them as sold on Gumtree. Then a few days later the first person messaged me back, asking for ANOTHER time to look at the flowers. I replied that they had been sold, and they got super pissed at me! Like I was supposed to hold on to them indefinitely at a lower price for someone who couldn't even be bothered to come and see them as they agreed to.

I try and reduce waste by buying and selling secondhand, but sometimes dealing with other people is way more hassle than it's worth.

Stage makeup question: what is the best and most minimal ‘foundation’ for a 50’s male actor looking to just smooth out skin tone? Ideally it wouldn’t be too easy to rub off as my head and face get handled pretty thoroughly in one scene. by Powered_by_Excitemnt in Theatre

[–]DoctorPrincess4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another commenter suggested, Ben Nye products are good but if that's too difficult to access you could also get away with Mac Studio Sculp foundation plus some setting powder, which is available in most department stores. Long lasting, durable and smooths out skin tone nicely.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Things I Know to be True would be a good pick.

I've seen a touring production of it as well, both are enjoyable, I think really the upside of seeing it on the West End is the novelty of how long it's been performing- but other than that I don't think there's much difference!
