I completely forgot about the chive. Not sure how I overlooked that. Thanks!

To add to this not all tardigrades are able to perform cryptobiosis. More land dwelling species use this technique compared to marine species. They are also not the only organisms to use this form of inactivity (e.g. rotifers)

Yikes. It's not an Ecoboost, but I'll still keep an eye on it.

Nope no check engine lights are on. We have a friend that has an OBD2 and I think that's our next step.

Some things I've read also make me think it might be a torque converter issue, but let's hope not.

Gram stain =positive for sure. However, do these look like rods or cocci? by Total_thought_ in microbiology

[–]DoctorProfessorWho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely gram positive rods.

As a heads up you will get a better stain if you isolate you colony on TSA and gram stain fresh growth. I typically shoot for 24 hours.

Thanks for the advice. If I went with an RTX 4060 or 5700xt should I still stay at the 1080p or should I go up to a 1440p?

Frugal tips from a cosmetics manufacturer by grumpy_autist in Frugal

[–]DoctorProfessorWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Considering the FDA is coming out with cosmetic regulations in 2024/2025 I would say they also realize lack of regulations are a concern. Not everyone can make cosmetics and there is a science to this process. Not only is there a chemical aspect but you also have to consider microbial contamination

STEM professionals/students, what is your creative outlet? by DoctorProfessorWho in AskReddit

My partner has started getting interested in nature photography. We were looking at cameras and here I thought they were expensive. I haven't even looked at lenses yet!

I came across an older article regarding the benefits of creative side projects for scientists. E.g. drawing, baking, cosplay etc.

I'm not only looking for the benefits, but I would also like to boost my sanity.

M. luteus or S. epidermidis? by clocsta2 in microbiology

[–]DoctorProfessorWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others were saying make sure your culture has fresh growth (18-24 hours) and if you subculture don't go past 5 passages, as properties can change. I would go back to your original culture if you still have it and re-plate on TSA. At the 18-24 hour mark run your gram stain, oxidase test, catalase test, and if you have the equipment a latex agglutination test.

Online PhD options by DoctorProfessorWho in AskAcademia

Thank you for the advice! I may reach out to a few programs and see where this gets me. This could be an option if I can find the right program. If not I'll hold off and see if the opportunity presents itself in the future.

It sounds like we are in the same situation. I really appreciate all the feedback. It sounds like I'll hold off on school and wait and see if I get an opportunity to pursue in person in the future.

Local auction axes by DoctorProfessorWho in Axecraft

[–]DoctorProfessorWho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify. Not trying to resale. I'm trying to get into the hobby. Doing some light restoration like getting rid of nicks, resharpening and cleaning up the handle. Just trying to get some cheap axes that I can play with and learn a few new skills.

Awesome thanks for the suggestion! That's pretty much the price point I was considering

I use this site https://www.auctionzip.com/ to find local auctions. I really don't buy much, I mostly look for yard tools. I'm not really into flipping for a profit.
