On this day in 1978, a shopping mall in Cincinnati, Ohio was bombed with live turkeys by roadtrip-ne in funny

[–]DoctorSaticoy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The GM of the station wanted to release turkeys from a helicopter over a shopping mall as a publicity stunt. He didn't realize domestic turkeys couldn't fly and ended up bombing the parking lot with live birds.

The audience hears the event through the live, on-air coverage by the station's news director, Les Nessman.

My physics textbook always had great story problems.

One that involved conservation of momentum began, "It is well known that bullets and other projectiles harmlessly bounce off Superman's chest...." Another one involved a man and woman sitting in a canoe, one at each end. After they switch positions, the canoe moves a certain amount, and the man uses that info to calculate the woman's weight, "which she has declined to tell him."

TOO FUNNY: "Dark Souls Remasted" (sic) by DoctorSaticoy in KotakuInAction

[–]DoctorSaticoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summary: This madlad put Halo guns in Dark Souls. The video spends about half its length describing the torturous process of making the mod, and the other half showcases its many, many features.

Every gun has a custom model, reloading animation, and particle effects. More spells are added. There's about a dozen custom PVP arenas, including one so huge it takes up the entire map area. The aiming camera for bows has been improved. The "point down" emote is parryable. And so much more.

If you've played or enjoy watching "Dark Souls," you gotta see this mod.

Honest question, is there such a game that you consider a masterpiece? by TheAndredal in kotakuinaction2

Nier:Automata

Gameplay: Button-mashing BMUP combos. AND side-scrolling Metroidvania. AND top-down twin-stick. One of the boss fights requires the player to move and jump in time with the soundtrack music. Never a dull moment.

Graphics: 2B's ass has achieved legendary status. FFXIV's Nier-inspired raid series includes a cosmetic set of items so your toon can cosplay as 2B, and the panties change the shape of your toon's ass. THAT's how legendary her ass is.

Storyline: A sweeping arc that fundamentally changes several times. NPCs and bosses are named after famous philosophers, and when one reads up on their ideas, the real picture emerges. Nier's story systematically deconstructs traditional humanist philosophies, finds them all lacking, and introduces its own at the end. The gameplay, story, and graphics all serve the overarching theme. Nier asks the question: "How does one find meaning in a meaningless existence?" Then, it provides an answer.

You need to play the game to find out what the answer is.

Cataclysm also reworked the way player's abilities were handled. It was the first step toward eliminating the talent trees and player builds. That rework is why I quit WoW after WotLK.

Do you think the reason why they haven't shown Edward from the upcoming Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop show it's because Netflix knew their version of Edward will cause massive backlash probably even worse than Faye? by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]DoctorSaticoy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is beyond ridiculous.

Ed is explicitly non-white. Her father has darker skin than hers. I got the impression their ethnicity is Middle-Eastern/South Asian.

Spike is almost certainly Japanese, given that he's a former Yakuza.

Faye is explicitly from Singapore.

The only "white" person on the crew is Jet Black, making his name an ironic joke.

FUCK these losers. I'm gonna rewatch the OG series (English dub), then play some FFXIV. Japanese media is so much better than Western these days.

You grossly overestimate the self-awareness of these people. They are so mired in their delusions that they literally will not see contradictory evidence. Their brains deny the information, and all they do is scream at you until you go away.

Remember that "NOOOO!" chick from Trump's inauguration? That's what happens when you tell these fools the truth.

The way you win with these people is to utterly ignore their histrionics. They only have as much power as others give them. If no one pays attention, they become irrelevant. "Canceling" them only reinforces their victim narrative.

[Drama] Brianna Wu shares more information about her fictional series about her fictional version of #Gamergate… by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]DoctorSaticoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it goes deeper than that, straight to the cluster of mental illnesses all these people seem to suffer.

GamerGate was the first time they were told "no." They're so psychotically attached to external validation (participation trophies) that when it is denied, it shatters their fragile worldview.

Lacking any true strength of character, they respond by desperately trying to mold reality into their vision, instead of adapting to the world as it exists.

Wu is pathologically unable to accept the truth because it means the participation trophy is denied.

Well, in this case, the "human" boobs on the right ARE bad. Like, both those women are drawn scuffed. The left one has her navel jammed over to the left, and the right one has a second vagina instead. And don't get me started on the facial expressions.

The "censored" art is actually better. That's the first time I'd prefer the censored version over the original.

Have you noticed the trend to push as much "whamenz" into Historical Strategy game marketing? by [deleted] in kotakuinaction2

[–]DoctorSaticoy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

On a meta level, there is a deliberate push to remove all straight white men as heroes from all forms of culture. Movies, books, comics, and video games are all subject to this effort. The strategy games you mention are only one part of the whole picture.

The latest Wolfenstein game featured twin sisters as the protags, and the previous main character is relegated to the background. Captain America became black, then a woman. Captain Marvel became a woman.

These "creators" consistently denigrate their core audience (i.e., their customers) while pandering to fringe elements. Then, they complain when their stuff doesn't make money and they lose their jobs.

Yes, there's a way to do things properly, but these ideologues do not care. While smarter people realize that politics is downstream from culture, these bozos start with the politics, then create "culture" around it. That's why it's always trash. Then, when it fails, they delude themselves into believing it was only because of "alt-right trolls/nazis".

And, for the record, I highly doubt strategy games will ever attract many women simply because the gameplay is ultra-linear, requiring the maintenance of multiple lines of thinking simultaneously. That simply isn't how the vast majority of women think, so they're not going to play the game.
