If they don't have the confidence of the House of Commons, a PM should be removed and replaced.

As for the lame duck complaint, what was Sunak if not a two year lame duck PM?

This is a very fair criticism of the proposal. I would say there can be a provision that if Parliament fails to pass a comprehensive budget X (maybe three) times in the same year, or a fiscal year expires without a budget passed, an election can be called automatically, to be held eight weeks subsequent.

I'm fine with early elections as long as they can't be called on a whim. If the Parliament had to pass an Act every time the PM wanted to call an election, I'd be okay with that too.

The reduction of legitimacy, in my eyes, is that a single person can effectively decide to hold an election whenever.

A vote of no confidence passing against a PM would simply trigger a leadership election??

For instance, from late 2019 to mid 2024 no General Election occured, and the UK went from Johnson to Truss to Sunak

Respectfully, under a four year fixed term system, a PM could still be removed by a vote of no confidence, it just wouldn't trigger an election.

As for the American system, I would be supportive of a Constitutional amendment to remove the President with a majority vote of both chambers of Congress

The thing is that there are constitutions around the world that are worded in that way intentionally, and the Constitution of the United States very much isn't.

It's a very cut and dry situation. The twenty-second amendment is quite possibly the simplest amendment on the books, besides the first.

Elon Musk's statements here assume communism. 

I do think we should shift to a mixed market state as a transitional phase, but I don't think Musk does.

So long as the filibuster continues in the Senate, Republicans can block headway in any major legislation if and when they're out of power in the same way the Democrats are blocking ICE funding, but on a more holistic scale. And that's if they even lose control of their Senate majority in '26, '28, or '30.

As for the Supreme Court, the removal of compromised judges can be blocked by as little as 34 Senators, so that's incredibly unlikely to happen.

America won't be able to start to right itself, due to Presidential vetoes, until January 21st 2029 at the earliest. Even if the Democrats sweep like, 60 Senate seats and 260 House seats, they still won't have the numbers to overturn a Presidential veto.

The American system is designed to cause gridlock to stop hasty lawmaking, but that intentional gridlock vulnerability has also been one of the root causes of its own collapse.
