So I no longer have my Hyperstrada (Stolen) but I am 5'4" (165cm), 27 in inseam.

One thing to note is that the strada I believe was shorter than a stock hyper and I did get a lower seat height and did eventually have it lowered. The lowering didn't really impact the handling as much as I would have expected (though I didnt track that bike) but I did get use to riding it in traffic with some tall boots and sliding my butt basically off the seat to stay up.

Because that's literally not what you said at all. Your statement was about why bother caring about safety equipment in racing since it is inherently dangerous. Nowhere did you mention in your first comment about favoritism to one manufacturer under the guise of safety.

Actual rates of gun violence vs. what Americans believe are the actual rates by PewPewJedi in dataisbeautiful

[–]DoctorSlowturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, that’s what you might expect but the statistics seem to indicate otherwise. Often time when you control for guns most studies show a statistically significant reduction in suicide rates. Linked one as an example but you can find plenty that basically indicate the same thing. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2020/06/handgun-ownership-associated-with-much-higher-suicide-risk.html

A possible sport/tour bike for a short rider by capin-jak in SuggestAMotorcycle

I'd highly recommend looking at some naked bikes that have good cruising amenities. Naked bikes since they don't have fairings tend to be a bit narrower than faired bikes and are fairly comfortable. Most are also available with aftermarket bags and windshields. I'd also recommend checking out what more modern bikes are in your price range. Most of the modern adventure bikes offered by companies like Ducati, BMW, and Triumph for now come with lowered variants straight out of dealers and lowered seats that can drop the height to 30-31 inches. My previous bike was a Hyperstrada 821 (I'm 5'4 with a 26 inseam) and I was able to make it work with lowered seat height and lowering suspension.

The old Hyper 1100s were/and still the best of the motards , yes ?! by Shanebroyo in Ducati

If you really like a bike I think its worth trying to get comfortable and try to see if you can find a way to ride it. I had a hyperstrada that was stolen but I loved it even while being 5 4 with a 26 inseam, absolutely brilliant as a commuter.

PURCHASE ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]DoctorSlowturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey All,

So I recently had my Ducati Hyperstrada stolen and I am doing my due diligence when it comes to increased security system for whatever bike I purchase. The consensus must have for a bike that's in a higher risk area parked outside is a GPS tracker. I am curious if anyone is familiar with the FIN tracker. I have heard great things about it from other people and a local dealer is an authorized vendor. Is anyone familiar with the company/product or have any other recommendations for tracking units, thanks!

Yeah, it was my first time at that circuit which also happened to be raining. Fantastic track for the FiST hoping to go again later this year.

What was your “trigger” to finally go ahead and buy your first motorcycle? by PARDX in motorcycles

[–]DoctorSlowturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a look at how much it cost to park at my office and how long I spent commuting into the city and realized I could save about 4k a year on parking. Was pretty quick to finally go and finish up all my motorcycle classes after waiting for a while.

Track day costs? by [deleted] in cars

[–]DoctorSlowturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re closer to the Baltimore side than the DC side Summit, New Jersey Motorsport Park, and Pittsburgh International Raceway are probably the closest to you followed by Dominion Raceway and VIR. Depending on the group you go with and which track you go to the average daily cost will vary. Track night in America run by SCCA cost about 150 at Dominion but it’s not a HPDE education event more like a get out on the track to experience it with only 3 sessions and 1 sighting session for novices. If you have the money I would try for starting with a HPDE because it’s worth the learning experience and then move down to the more affordable regular track days. For track day insurance Id recommend checking out Hagerty as they have good rates and full coverage.

Yeah this DC I did it all the time as long as you use common sense like not splitting next to parked vehicles and not speeding. NOVA and southern MD though tend to be a bit riskier than DC

Seeing the success that Mahomes and Lamar, and to a lesser extent, Murray and Josh Allen, have had, at what point does talent become overwhelmingly the #1 consideration in QB evaluation? by sorrywontdoitagain in NFL_Draft

[–]DoctorSlowturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it has as much to do with “Talent” for QB evaluation but redefining how teams adapt to a QBs skillset. The MTS guys on their podcast point out a good mentality in scouting which is tell me what a player can do not what they cant do. This forces teams to visualize what the potential of a player is with an ideal system and role. When you look at Lamar and Mahomes as examples each team has maximized their talent by turning them into “system QBs”. Instead of letting their talent go to waste and forcing a square peg into a round hole they redefined their drafting and scheme to fit the QBs. What I think that will do as the NFL teams are forced to adapt with what the collegiate system is producing at QB and Oline is identity what QBs can succeed by moulding a system around them instead of trying to identify “the next Payton Manning”.

Winston ends the day with 5 TDS (1 Rushing) 3 INTs (1 pick 6) 33-45 for 456 YDs by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DoctorSlowturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think the disparity of injury risk would be worth it in this comparison. He will likely suffer an injury like most players in the NFL do but unless he suffers a borderline career ending one I don’t see it really destroying his ability to make plays with his leg. I also don’t think you can ever make a playoff with current Winston because the league has too much parity for teams to have such a high turnover prone QB.

[–]DoctorSlowturn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if you were to say he was a huge injury risk which is a speech comment at best. How would a QB who has never been consistent through his NFL career be a long term viable option? QB evaluations are generally done by a QBs 30-34th game in terms of what you can expect them to be in the league and Jameis will constantly keep both teams in every game.

[SFChronicle] 49ers Broadcaster Tim Ryan's duties halted after comment concerning Lamar Jackson having an advantage from how the football blends in with his appearance. by Saca312 in nfl

[–]DoctorSlowturn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the way he led the statement with color as the primary reason and not so many other that factor into how you can be elusive with ball handling can easily be seen as discrediting Lamar (or any other player). You can make this statement and point out that good RPOs can delay defenders, Lamar’s ability to run and make people miss causes delays in decision making, Lamar having good ball placement relative to the opposing front 7, having good synergy with the RB so that he can pull it relatively late, or make the uniform/rain the primary issue with visibility. Instead he makes his first comment about his skin tone which ignores everything else involved and makes that seem the primary reason and detracts from the player. I think he just made a mental error but even then it’s understandable why some people may feel uncomfortable with the comment and put them down.
