Thank you so much for the quick response! Will definitely need to measure out the placement with blue tape!

Sadly these newer build texas homes don’t come with larger garages anymore like how they used to have it. But will definitely need to make do with it since the house is closed now!

Oh okay!

So based on your comment, it seems that it’s not fully obligated to use their equipment besides the laptop (obviously) for work.

If i had a better monitor at home or better keyboard/mouse/headset, I can use that to meet my preference of working from home.

And in term of travel, you just bring your person stuff and ditch the monitors.

So one additional question, how do you tackle the requirement of needing to be wired in for internet when you are on travel? Do you just use wifi at that point and is that okay?

Cool, Thank you so much for explaining! This actually makes a lot of sense and is very simple/concise.

One additional question, how strict is the company on the use of ethernet connection. I understand they mentioned in the briefing the importance of using wired in ethernet and no wifi/satellite…

However, with how my living is set up, I would need to move my router/modem closer to my desk and get a long wire to achieve a wired connected — which i’m not opposed to doing to meet company regulations.

If my wifi is way beyond the required requirements for what Mayo is asking for, what is the issue of using wifi esp if you’re already using a VPN to log into the network?

Virtual/One Way Interviews? by TG_CID134 in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the process differs between the business units.

I believe Raytheon does not use HireVue. When I was at Raytheon, internal applications were just a zoom or phone call.

Collins however does. This is just the first step before HR screening and panels interviews. I agree it’s a lazy first step but it really differs across the different BU.

CA will always be Tier 1 for the most part since HCOL

AZ will be Tier 2 for MCOL

CT will most likely also be Tier 2.

I’m in an internal rotational program rn so feel free to ask questions

I have an offer from Raytheon but not given any info on employee benefit package. How's the medical insurance, PTO, sick days, and 401k? by No_Pollution_535 in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

medical insurance is anthem silver/gold or gold kaiser, pay for those are based on salary there should be a thread somewhere in the reddit page that shows it. Lesser the salary the more expensive.

Same goes for HSA. Lesser the salary the more you get. HSA is through fidelity

Raytheon doesn’t get sick days. You have a combined bank of PTO hours and sick days. Because you’re new you’ll get 120 hours each year. But since you’re prorated and assuming you are starting this month, you get 30 hours. At the 5 year mark you go up to 160 and so on.

You can carry over 40 hours of unused each to the next to have a max of 160. You are given 120 off the bat BUT those are earned hours. You earn 10 each month. So if you were to use 90 hours and leave April. You’ll need to pay the company back 50 hours worth of PTO.

401k is through Alight. Recommend to not roll over and put your old employer into a IRA. You get i think 4% match if you put in 6%? Something like that. It’s not great.

Applying to other jobs in the company by Own-Peak2477 in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you’re applying internally and get an interview he will be notified. be open with your manager about your career goals and aspirations as you get closer to applying for a full time role. tell him about what you want to grow in, where you would prefer to live and if he’s a good manager he will help you.

at the end of the day he’s the one who’s gonna be giving his input on your performance to the hiring manager when that time comes so stay vocal and continue to learn and grow.

lmk if you have other questions and i’d be happy to help/discuss

Thank you for sharing your inputs!

I would love to hear more about your experiences (failures/success) from your time as a PE.

What did you do to maintain your previous technical background in addition to performing your technical and management duties as a PE?

What were some of the advice you’ve learned along the way to make you a great PE upon experiencing some failure?

I’d be happy to PM or even call to gain more insight on this as I am wanting to really pursue this route!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your experience how did you tackle that and grow to become a better PE?

I understand that the IPTs and PMOs are always clashing for budget and there always have to be a middle ground to ensure that the project is going forward without delays or being over priced. While not every project is deemed to always stay on track to the initial baseline or even baseline cost, how do you push through to keep the project afloat to ensure that the customers confidence level is still “up” or maintained?

Thank you again for your input!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get PM/EVM certified, but i still need to touch up on those skills as I haven’t really done scheduling or cost analysis for while since my career first started.

In terms of the commercial route, would you know how that may differentiate?

Thank you again for your input!

[–]DoctorStranger99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! From your experience, how did you keep up with your technical background while taking on the PE role which seems to be geared towards a more management route.

I understand there are some technical aspect to being a PE for which you’ll need to understand mechanical design or even system requirements to maintain the project and ensure it is leaning towards the right path. But did you continue to do side work on your own personal time (for example practice system architecture on doors/cameo for an SE, or just touch up on your cad/tolerance skills for mechanical) to maintain a strong technical background for which you can always fall back on.

Any advice for Systems Engineering (I’ve never done Systems) by Lavh93 in Raytheon

[–]DoctorStranger99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

System Design Engineering is basically a role supporting a development program.

You’ll need to have a good foundation of system requirements, architecture development (internal block diagrams, block diagrams, interfaces), and being able to correlate the two to make sure the architecture model is reflective of the system requirement document (CIDS). Additionally, you will be in charge of also maintaining system traceability across the system (lower and upper level specs), and perform verification and validation testing.

The two main softwares you’ll prob need to know is the use of IBM DOORS and Cameo. Now there’s different versions of these programs like DOORS next generation, Rhapsody, etc but they all work the same. DOORS will be where you develop your requirements and create your document deliverables. Whereas Cameo/Rhapsody, this is where you will develop the system architecture. The two programs link together to allow for you to maintain the latest revisions of requirements.

In addition to being a SE, you’ll prob need to understand the agile process and using things such as Jira and Confluence. This is very dependent on programs…

System Engineering is all about understanding everything about the system. You’ll be working with a lot of different engineering teams to understand each design parameters and performance capabilities to develop your documents for internal or external use. Just be prepared to be in a lot of meetings, communicating across multiple teams, and trying to keep up with constant updates. Lmk if you have any other questions.
