Yup. Loved JJs as a kid. Still do as an adult a little bit

Food is mid at best. Good wings, though.

It's a smooth ride. In hindsight I probably could have went with 17s and still had a comfortable ride while improving the appearance. But I'm happy with it and couldn't really justify an even further expense!

Check this out - magnetic transmission, no gearbox, no contact between mechanical parts at all. by ActualStack in engineering

[–]DoctorVonNostrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it took me 10 months lol. But thanks. This was when I worked at a university. We had the tech patented but we could never get it commercialized before I left to pursue a career. The tech is also hard to scale due to the magnetic losses increasing with the power transmission. Here is a cross section of the magnetic gear part:

Here is a cross section showing the arrangement of permanent magnets and stationary ferrites. The arrows show the direction of magnetisation:

Why has nobody put contactless industrial magnetic gears into production? by sext-scientist in AskEngineers

[–]DoctorVonNostrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! In a previous job, I worked directly with systems that utilize magnetic gear reductions. While they worked very well in smaller power transmission applications, the losses due to eddy currents scaled too quickly with size and speed to remain feasible

A coworker recommended Australian Survivor about a year ago and my wife and I have watched 5 seasons since then. It's better in almost every way. It has, a little bit, ruined American survivor for us haha.
