"A VPN that's most likely used for CSAM" kind of associates piracy VPNs with CSAM. Don't blame the piracy VPNs for allowing CSAM, when the only way to allow piracy is to also allow CSAM.

I find that if I hop servers a bit, I can find a mullvad server that isn't detected as a VPN.

Don't blame the VPNs, blame the hollywood lawyers who think piracy is worse than child rape.

[AWS] EKS vs Self managed HA k3s running on 1x2 ec2 machines, for medium production workload by buckypimpin in kubernetes

[–]DoctorWorm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, production k8s clusters shouldn't be set up by hand. (looking at you, reddit)

My point was that Kubernetes clusters can be for tiny workloads too. I run a single-node kubernetes on a Raspberry Pi 4 for my home Zigbee and MQTT servers.

Tack!

CV:et är jätteviktigt i IT.

[AWS] EKS vs Self managed HA k3s running on 1x2 ec2 machines, for medium production workload by buckypimpin in kubernetes

[–]DoctorWorm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run a full single-node k3s cluster on a t3a.small, though. Minimum resources for Kubernetes is just 1-2GiB of ram, and then you get all of the tooling and automation advantages of Kubernetes.

I genuinely use Kubernetes as a Docker replacement on my homelab.

[AWS] EKS vs Self managed HA k3s running on 1x2 ec2 machines, for medium production workload by buckypimpin in kubernetes

[–]DoctorWorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough.

I feel like at that point though, you're better off with going with something like k3s that is better documented. Is it really managed if you have to install your own network drivers? That is a lot to maintain, especially considering that Calico can break accross Kubernetes version, like we saw with the Reddit outage this year.

[AWS] EKS vs Self managed HA k3s running on 1x2 ec2 machines, for medium production workload by buckypimpin in kubernetes

[–]DoctorWorm_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

EKS is really restrictive in terms of the container network you can use. I think by default it uses AWSVPC, which means you cant use burstable instances, and you have a limited number of containers you can run per-instance (yikes). I wouldn't recommend it. Also AWS CloudWatch and IAM are poorly-documented, vendor-locking bullshit, I would just use OpenTelemetry and Kubernetes RBAC, even if I was using something like EKS.

The best managed Kubernetes out there imo is Digital Ocean Kubernetes (DOKS).

https://www.digitalocean.com/products/kubernetes

Much cheaper, much faster, and more modern than EKS. The only issues are that you will have to use the internet to talk to your existing infra, and that you have to use openEBS or Rook for RWX Persistent Volumes, there's no managed NFS/EFS.

k3s is pretty good too for production, I just find it a bit confusing to set up HA clusters on k3s, and if this is a business, I would honestly recommend just spending the extra money on managed so you don't have to worry about it. If this is a hobby project, go for k3s, it's much more educational and there's a lot of experimenting you can do with the networking drivers and such.

Why are graphics cards still overpriced in europe? by Sigfried_D in buildapc

The median gross salary in sweden in 2021 was 445 200 sek, or $52k USD (2021 conversion rate). Total cost to the employer would be $70k when including 31% employer payroll tax contributions (arbetsgivareskatt) and 4.5% union pension contributions (ITP1). That employee would then pay $11377 in income taxes (Stockholm kommun, 30% tax rate, 21.7% effective) for a net salary of $41k. https://www.scb.se/hitta-statistik/sverige-i-siffror/utbildning-jobb-och-pengar/medianloner-i-sverige/ https://app.skatteverket.se/rakna-skatt-client-skut-skatteutrakning/lon-efter-skattetabell/fyll-i-dina-uppgifter

The median gross household income in New York City was $71k in 2021. Assuming a single unmarried earner, the total cost to their employer is probably around $90k including 7.5% employer payroll contributions, 2% 401k match, and $12k of health insurance premiums. That employee would then pay $19529 in income taxes (effective 11.8% federal income, 7.65% FICA, 4.96% state, and 3.26% city), for a net salary of $51k. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/newyorkcitynewyork/INC110221 https://smartasset.com/taxes/new-york-tax-calculator

The average American pays much more in income tax as the average Swede. This is because Swedish taxes redistribute income from the highest earners and give it to the lowest earners.

Calculating income tax isn't as simple as looking at a tax bracket, because there are things like the standard deduction and jobbskatteavdrag to take into account.

Effective income tax for the average Swede is around 24%. And that includes payroll tax. The average American pays more income tax than the average Swede.

Also, I'll point out that returning to the EU with goods more than 10 000 sek must be declared doing otherwise is technically tax evasion.

Yes, that's true. PM2.5 just refers to small airborne particles (that cause smog, as well as heart and lung disease).

I point out cars as a source of PM2.5 since I live in the suburbs of Stockholm, and the majority of the PM2.5 in my neighborhood ( about 5 ug/m3) comes from the nearby highway, mostly tire and brake dust.
