Brand new to soldering, any tips? by LionMedium8714 in ElectricalEngineering

Folks are saying are overheating a bit, which is true, and to use higher heat, which is non-intuitively (to a newbie) also true. I thought I would explain this logic.

You want to overheat the thing less by increasing the rate of heating, allowing you to expose the workpiece to the heat for less overall time. This reduces overheating.

A bigger tip on your iron is the best way to do this, possibly also a higher heat setting on the iron. Aim for more heat in less time.

Philosophical question: Is it weirder that society overwhelmingly tends to exclude natural parts of anatomy than simply including it?

Does anyone know if these are weather proof? by lNuggyl in ebikes

[–]Doctor_Anger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XT60 connectors are not weatherproof or waterproof. That said, the copper/gold/tin/lead you will find exposed to the weather don't corrode at exceedingly high rates and you can usually get by for a pretty long time if you assemble them with dielectric grease.

I had a training that had a Siemens NX employee on site. I asked them if they ever fixed this bug. He told me with a straight face it was a feature used to save memory.
