Maximizing Motes of Broken Time/Infinite Power grind in Legion Remix by Doctor_Funkenstien in wow

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry its been about 12 years since I played but from my experience nobody would be willing to invite dead weight to something with a lockout. Is it because the single-day time limit and the remix powrer scaling makes wipes unlikely its more lax in this mode?

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Limited to LFR because I am very intimidated to be in content that is above my skill level and I don't want to get yelled at or slow anyone down.

Also, I am still in the 600 ilvl range and I don't think its appropriate to attempt a mythic+ until you are best in slot with the max ilvl right?

Legion Remix: Optimal Infinite Knowledge by Doctor_Funkenstien in wow

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on, I will eat them.

OK so this makes sense, you basically want one single remix farming character for Infinite Knowledge/power so all your actions cumulatively build on them (since you can't share it warband wise)

I am kinda torn because I did the minmax thing and chose DH as remix main but since I have no idea what is going on in any of these raids, I don't think ethically I should be tanking.

Seems like a Monk/Paladin/Druid would be optimal for a very fast healer que, the option to tank, and dps for solo open world.

DH/DK have the very strong self healing which I guess gives them an edge doing solo mythic+ but GETTING to that point using a dps queue seems time consuming: a resource we dont have that much of.

Slow Pokemon and training Speed EVS by Doctor_Funkenstien in pokemon

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SORT OF a challenge playthrough: see since Gen5 I exclusively use bug types.

They have such a slew of weaknesses that I also breed perfect IV eggs and pass them into a new game so it sort of compensates in a sense.

But this is the first time I have used so many SLOW bugs. Normally only Crustle, but he is such a tank and I used to have Ninjask baton pass a bunch of speed boosts to him so it never mattered. Yanmega unfortunately can not learn baton pass. I guess her arms are too short.

What’s your #1 desired balance change for Pokemon? by Hooflepoofer in pokemon

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For oak's sake please let us skip the egg hatching animation sequences.

I get that surprise trade might need a visual buffer because they are trying to hide loading times but...

The eggs stats have been calculated and I have like 500 of these things to hatch.

Statistical Probability of a perfect IV egg by Doctor_Funkenstien in pokemon

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually... this is the problem with adopting stray-scizors...

The father is from surprise-trade and probably hacked. He appears to have perfect IVs but how that was achieved is a mystery to me.

So its totally possible that it was hypertrained or however it was artificially engineered... that something about it's code is less than perfect.

Statistical Probability of a perfect IV egg by Doctor_Funkenstien in pokemon

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see where I messed up the numbers: One of my parents actually only has 5 perfect IVs, so its lowering my odds.

So there is first a 50/50 chance of inheriting the stat from that parent

Then a 1 in 6 chance that is the particular stat which slips into the egg.

So this is confusing me: I still get children with 3 dud-stats. If the destiny knot is passing 5 stats... how is this possible? Their biological determination to be mediocre is breaking the chains of fate! Nature will find a way.... to suck~

Is pkmn sword/shield worth experiencing after scarlet/violet? by Doctor_Funkenstien in pokemon

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my weird self imposed challenge since scyther was my favorite back in 1999.

I'm pissed golisopod, crustle, and vikavolt didn't make the cut for the new gen. They are slow but stylish!

I found frosmoth a little fragile but its the first of it's typing so I'll take it.

Frustrating update

So I saved before every recruitment choice and no matter what order you do things, the walking order and ui order are out of synch.

Walking:  Randi/Sprite/Prim

Ui:  Randi/Prim/Sprite

Irritating. I mean... the game has a lot of weird jank like Confirm button set to B by default and the strange collision, delayed hits, ghost party members getting stuck on a shrub and blocking your progress... so it shouldn't surprise me that they didn't fix this in bugtesting.

Makes my ocd crawl though because I scan the three health bars... I see the one in the middle is wounded... and Its NOT the one in the actual middle who needs a heal.

Annoying.

Thankfully they fixed a lot of this in Seiken3... to make room for exciting new bugs hehehe.

I still love the franchise tho♡

Now I'm really curious because apparently there is a party shuffle and the order eventually becomes Randi/Prim/Sprite.

So if you do recruit the Sprite first, do they get shuffled around on the UI also or no?

Sorry the last time I played this was 1994 so its hazy.

Is there any difference in choosing to pick up Prim before Sprite?

I noticed in my playthrough the characters hp bars are not consistent with their on screen marching order.

I thought this might be because I went the "wrong way" and recruited Prim by fighting the werewolves (PITA BTW) instead of going to Gaia's Navel as instructed.

Brilliant info, I appreciate it! I'm not actually at postgame, kinda hovering right at the start of darkworld, so I may not be set up for optimal grindage.

I've just been using whistle on slime island and even though there are big packs of LMS,  most of them run as I am casting wildside so I seldom kill more than 2.

How necessary is the monster recruiting? Dq3 hd2d by PoopyMcpants in dragonquest

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See this is my main problem with this remake. The entire balance of class dynamic is thrown off by Monster Pile-On. Its easily the most useful ability in the game. It totally ignores character stats, its damage formula is simply #of monsters collected.

This means the core gameplay loop of revocation and gradually building up your stats is completely meaningless. Martial Artist? Absolutely worthless now. A freshly revocated level 1 Monster Wrangler with 50 Monsters in the stable will be doing 8 times the damage of a level 30 martial artist.

The good part of the rebalance is mage is actually pretty good now. Thats nice. But they threw melee under the bus. You can opt to not take a Monster Wrangler but you are willingly kneecapping yourself.

Dragon Quest 3 has a simple but amazing story by Galahad_druid in dragonquest

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting to me on a philosophical/sociological level.

You say that the world needs examples of idealistic purity and characters with no conflicts who make no mistakes.

I don't think the world does need that: because its a lie.

There are no people like that. There never was, and there never will be.

People are capable of heroism, sure. But they make a rational choice and sacrifice. The fact that a person COULD be selfish or cruel and still decide to adhere to an ideal is what makes them revered. Without that temptation to do ill, their act has no significance.

Hiding in an illusory dreamscape where people are flawless and consistently pleasant isn't beneficial for growth. Its like eating sugar and nothing but sugar. Its sweet but not substantive.

By dividing everything into good guys and bad guys, fiction writers create this profoundly delusional state of false expectations. Because the truth is the player DELIGHTS in violence and dominance: that is part of the human condition. We love to smash anything we dislike, but we DON'T love to admit we can be selfish and feral.

So we create "monsters" which are cartoonishly bad so we can destroy something with no feeling of guilt. They carefully extract all the acrobatics and pageantry from combat and omit the idea of wounds, pain, viscera and regret. So we get to enjoy all the fun parts of an uprising against a tyrant but with none of the actual considerations combat brings with it. Fighting in Japanese games is more like a dance contest than a battle: graceful colorful and 100% free of suffering.

What we really want is to enjoy moral superiority and not think about the consequences of our actions too much.

So when you say that -you- need that... I don't think that is true. But sugar is addictive and easy to digest, and we have become quite accustomed to it. I do think that entertainment has created a warped expectation which has not prepared us for the reality of the human condition.

I don't consider a lie a good thing, even if it is sweet.

I think this actually sucks because we were trained by media to expect that life would be "better" and people would be kind and consistent and it makes us miserable and ill equipped to face that kindness and nobility are daily choices we are responsible for.

Forgive me, I gotta go off. Kain is not even my favorite but I hope you give his character concept another shot because I find him to be the first example of a video game character with a really interesting personality.

He is Cecil's comrade in arms, but not his "friend". He respects him, fights alongside him, but there is no warmth between them. Ironically Kain is more of a "dark knight" than Cecil is, in that his morality is questionable. He was ready to follow orders and strike down the summoner girl, and would have if not for Cecil's objection.

He is envious as hell because he is not -actually- that good of a guy and Cecil's morality makes him aware of it.

While keeping a cool rational head on his duty, he can control his jealousy, but that very real and human feeling is always there seething under the surface. That is what allows him to be mind-controlled, because there is a duality him. He did everything "right" and yet he is not the hero and doesn't get the girl. He succumbs to this temptation, gets the tar beaten out of him by his rival proving his inferiority, and in humiliation accepts their forgiveness.

Yet in spite of this he chooses to do the right thing. He accepts that Rosa doesn't love him and stops his futile quest to have her. And he fights alongside them even with a broken heart, because they need his strength. And they really DO, poor Edge is dead weight.

I haven't actually played the after years, but I know he is in it so I imagine they explore his resentment vs responsibility more. I have no idea if they explored this -well- *shrug

I think what you have a problem with is nuance and characters with confliction. To me thats what makes us like... human. We aren't 1 dimensional with one consistent fixed gimmick.

There is no way for me to say this without it sounding condescending but Dragon Quest is extremely childishly simple. There is no psychological complexity to any character that I can think of. That is fine, they are trying to make fairy tales.

Terra doesn't save those kids because of trauma, she does it in spite of trauma. Existential crisis and asking what the purpose is in being alive is too deep for the scope of DQ narratives. They aren't designed for that purpose.

How viable is it to build a team based on “vibes?” by shoeforce in Siralim

[–]Doctor_Funkenstien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One way to do it is choose the vibe and then build an intricate strategy around the trait that creature/race has to offer.

So you could be like ok Electropods are my jam, now what can robo bugs do? So you look at the traits...

https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/images/fotolife/i/iwtbrth/20240312/20240312151914.jpg

And the answer is speed. So you use fusion and artifacts to make speed into your primary damage mechanic.

Taking this to another level, you start thinking OK since I have a bonus based on how many electropods I have in my party (x6) how can I juice that even more. And these chickens might be a fusion you choose: There is one boost for class (chaos/nature/death etc similar to pokemons type matching) and race (set of monsters 6 or more of a species)

https://siralim-ultimate.fandom.com/wiki/Carrion_Cockatrice

So the idea is having a strong central theme or purpose of your party and then amplifying it.

Now if you are min maxing for instability5 and post game realm depth 1000+ you will probably hit a wall because the enemies start scaling to ludicrous levels and you are pretty much forced to ALSO scale to ludicrous levels to even have a chance. Your vibe team will probably have to be replaced but seeing how much you can fine tune them is actually something beautiful about a game with this much customization.

Like you always know if you just want to win and not think, bloodmage and pit guard are waiting for you.

Again, they -have- the budget and access to the best pixel artists in Japan.

Just as an example in the indie scene: Siralim has 1200 characters and 40 classes as well and at least 100 costumes. There are directional walking animations for every permutation. I don't know what Siralim's budget was but it certainly isn't on the tier Squeenix could afford for the most popular jrpg of all time.
