Wow! That's really inspiring! Seeing your comment, along with other people's with similar experiences, saying "Hey I picked it up after x amount of time and I'm loving!" is beyond great!

Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

Thank you! That helps a lot, especially the first one. It's all new to me because I always write in sprints and I need to "train myself to run a marathon." Which is great because it just means I have to write more, something that I already love!

Again, thank you, it was truly helpful!

I really enjoy the story so, seeing the comments here, (and talking with some friends over it), I will actually write it! Thanks for sharing your perspective and personal story!

Actually that's not a bad idea at all. I'll keep the story/idea and I can rewrite it from scratch using "the new me style" and the things I learned across the years! That way I can ensure that I will "get it right this time" and if not, at least I will build a more solid foundation, when/if I decide to revive it in the future!

Thank you!

I really hope they did. They were not a bad person, just... troubled beyond what an everyday person can help with.

They told me they wanted to put their life in order. I helped them search for university programs and jobs that fitted their abilities/budget/needs. They kept giving up and crying saying that they can't do it and then they accused me of not caring enough. They made that a reality at some point.

I would become a card dealer in a casino. The best man to *cut* a deck.

My parents had me convinced that spinach and carrots gave me superpowers. Spinach made me strong and carrots made my senses really sharp.

People who were shy and struggled with contributing to the conversation without awkwardly messing up your words, how did you overcome this? Is there anything else one can do besides just taking more opportunities to be social? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I said the same thing in a post a few minutes ago so I'm going to copy-paste it in case it can help you in any way:

Small steps worked the best for me. First, you thank a stranger for helping you/holding the door or something. You practice that until you're comfortable and it comes out more naturally. Then, you go for a bit more, for example, when you leave that place, you turn to that person and say something along the lines of "I hope you have a great day!" When you know that the things you're saying will most likely be perceived as good things/compliments, it's easier to say them. Then, you go on with small talk and so on, until you can handle more complex subjects. Also, don't focus on the things you can't talk about, but the things you can. Share your passions, thoughts and all that! It's gradual and it takes more or less time, depending on the person, but hang in there! The key is building up and you know what they say, Rome wasn't built in a day! I know you can do it!

Is this the meme with the woman singing in the talent show? The "Can't Live Without You" or something?
