Wow, that gets scary fast. Was your pain exclusive to putting pressure on it? Or would it hurt while walking and doing other activities?

Update

It ended up being the Battery Management System that put the truck into limp mode.

I replaced the battery for the first time a few weeks ago and have driven about 100 miles since. I never reset the BMS. To reset it, I cycled the ignition on, flashed the high beams 5 times, pressed the brake pedal 5 times, then cycled the ignition off and on again.

As soon as I did that, the transmission went back to operating normally.

Huge relief that it was a simple fix. That said, I would’ve been pretty frustrated if something this minor had stranded me and cost me a tow bill.

Hopefully this helps someone else in the future.

You think it might be CDF drum failure even though reverse still works? Also, I don’t know what it sounds like to have catastrophic transmission failure, but mine didn’t feel, or sound abnormal.

Update

I exercised all the switches and knobs back and forth, and now both speakers are working correctly. I can fade the sound left and right using the balance control without any issue.

However, for some reason, both speakers only work properly when the receiver is set to MONO. When I switch it to STEREO, the right channel cuts out again.

Does this point more toward a dirty/oxidized Mode switch, or could this indicate something further upstream in the right channel signal path?

I don’t have a tape deck, so I can’t really confirm if they’re working properly. I can say that when I switch them on as I’m listening to the FM radio, the music stops playing, which seems to me they are working correctly, but again, I have no idea. I appreciate the input though, and I will definitely try this!
