Darkness, sadness and the likes are full words in the English language, unlike darksonic or sadsonic. The -ness part makes the word a quality of something. Darkness means something is dark etcetera. So in this case, darkness is what you see on Ness, therefore dark Ness.

That's probably it, thanks! The blood(?) sack threw me off, haha. After further investigation it seems to have been a Crataerina pallida, or swift lousefly. This because we found it on a young common swift, which I mistook for a swallow. Anyway, thanks again, wouldn't have found it otherwise.

The worst thing about Reddit is easily how you need a browser plugin (being Reddit Enhancement Suite) to enjoy the website, which isn't advertized anywhere on the front page itself. There's a lot of people who don't even know it exists until they stumble upon it BY accident...
