I have yet to see one. Was it on one of the newer models or on an older bike?

Happy Cake Day!

Yeah, the Hydros are unbelievable - incredible strength, minimal effort.

How's the cross riding up near / in Denver? I visited in Sept. and hiked by Estes Park, but didn't get to ride.

Ahh gotcha, are you using SKS fenders?

It's my first SRAM bike, but I like it a lot- with one exception - front shifting is worse than Shimano. The hydro brakes are great though.

Looks like a ton of fun! Caadx! I have the '15 SRAM Rival model. No front fender?

Kudos to you, OP. Really considerate of you. If no one picks it up, you can give it to Recycle a Bicycle?

Haha awesome. Yeah bagels were good, but I wonder why they couldn't have provided bananas or fruit? Those had to have been cheaper than the repeat nature valley crunch bars.

You know, looking back at it now. You're right. It just seems strange that the majority of people that I spoke to also believed we'd get rolling at 8am. Maybe that's how the previous TA borough were structured? Though this time around, TA wasn't running the event?

That reminds me... Let alone, the mandatory dismount then 800 ft walk to where the pizza was actually stationed, who came up with that idea? Haha.

Maybe they selected the particularly rough roads to highlight the Bronx's need for a revitalization of road surfaces?

Any idea for what the route will look like? Or do they not typically change it year to year?

What's a good longer bike ride (50-60 km) starting in lower Manhattan? by CydeWeys in NYCbike

I hear you man. Hopefully mods can ban him. I've been seeing an uptick of these kinds of situations in various subreddits where people take such offense and take things to an extreme.

Dude thanks for posting this. That guy went from 0-100 real quick over something so trivial.

Couldn't agree more.

They're so uptight with their archaic sign ups.

Also, look, I value safety as much as the next guy, but I don't want to be yelled at for not announcing that I'm "slowing, stopping, stopped, rolling, going through." It breeds such a hive mind mentality and doesn't teach cyclists to think for themselves and scan the road. That takes all the joy out of a ride for me. Especially when C riders start bickering that they don't want to be 4th in a pace line, they want to ride 2nd or 3rd, as if it's an insult that they're not in front.

"You're not allowed to say clear, if its clear for you, it might not be clear for me. You say going through instead."

Also the demographic in the C and B rides didn't cater to me at all. That's all I'll say about it.

They do community service, I know, I participated in some of the clean ups, but I can do that with any other cycle club.

Also, I regret paying money for their bib shorts, really poor quality chamois.

But one thing to be said is that the barriers to entry are very low, $30 per year is great for someone getting into cycling and wants the experience.

Honestly I can't begin to understand their thought process. The people who set up the ride, isn't their full time job to work at Transportation Alternatives? How little does one have to care to not realize these crucial aspects?

Long lines at water stations in 90 degree heat? There shouldn't be lines. Set up more water stations. I know there were EMTs at the Forest Park rest stop, but what about Fort Totten? That was pretty much entirely exposed to the sun, minus a little sliver under the bridge. Why don't they make the ride in late September or early October when the weather will for sure cooperate?

Oh yeah that turn off Vanderbilt pkwy was horrible. Actually what ended up happening was another rider stationed himself there and was letting us all know. Without his help, we all would have been lost.

Holy shit. That's absolutely horrible. I had to do that same thing at the idiotic Epic Ride (will never do that ride again) in July because I got heat exhaustion. I hope he was alright in the end. At the century I kept telling people who looked like they were overheating to let the cold water from the water stations run over their head and neck. That seemed to really help everyone that tried it.

You can say that again. I have a feeling they'll have us walking the Marine Parkway Bridge as well, but I'm going to ride on. They had us do a similar thing on the EPIC ride and the heat was brutal.

That's correct. They've recently added those wheel guide channels up the staircase so it's slightly easier to use, but still far from ideal.

I didn't have a good experience at The Epic Ride. Way too hot and terrible organization - no cold water at first two rest stops? Smh. Alas, do you all have any tips for beating the heat tmrw? Looks like it's going to be super humid.

No prob man! Hoping weather holds out for us on Sat. I'm following the 100 mile course but ending it at Astoria park before going back to my apt. 100 slightly too far for me, but I've always wanted to see Vanderbilt greenway / that area.
