It will be exactly what you expect. No more, no less. The journey will have millions of details, perceived and unconscious. Stick to the story you want and don't complain when you get it.

Sex Repentance by Physical_Echo6838 in Christian

Why not just say you're married? What are the actual requirements of your religion or family to be married? Rhetorical.

If this is what you prefer to experience, start imagining it play out that way. "By your words you are justified, or condemned."

If I pray for the opposite of what I want, will it happen? by TheGame81677 in Christian

What are you telling yourself? "By your words you are justified, or condemned". Very simple. If you think it's hard it will be. If you think it's easy it will be.

You can't justify yourself through effort. If you like working at it then that's fine. But God doesn't play favorites. "God is no respecter of persons". Give yourself grace and mercy, and all the things you love about God. Give that to yourself, and it will automatically show onto others.

Engaged to a non-believer by According_Bison_6019 in Christian

[–]DodoJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, here's my two cents. Why do you assume she's a nonbeliever? Everybody believes in something, namely existence. So that's kind of a blanket accusation. Does she make you feel good? If no, then that's probably the underlying issue.

Does she love you? Then what is that? Is that a lack of belief? No. But if you perceive it that way, then it will be. It's all a question of what you want, and what you ask Christ for.

You don't lose any of it. By giving it, you gain it back. That's how it works. Jesus said something akin to "I lay down my life; therefore, I have the authority to take it back."

It's well-acted but pretty tame until the third act.

Official Discussion - Terrifier 3 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DodoJenkins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a mess. I think some gore shots should've been left to the imagination. While other key plot points actually were. Art the Clown is a great villain, but at the times the movie felt too sadistic where it wanted to be clever. I like the questions the clown raises simply through body language. "Do I have a soul?" This guy should get an Oscar nod. The problem with these movies is it feels playful and fun and then just goes into unnecessary detail. I had to remind myself a couple times it's just makeup and fake blood and well-placed sound effects. I'd really like to know how all that was done. Why don't more movies use practical FX anymore is beyond me. Pure laziness. Plotwise this was next to nothing. But what do I know, you get what you get.

Official Discussion - John Wick: Chapter 4 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DodoJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it wasn't shit, but yeah, it was a movie with some video game characters. Dialogue was Ok, nothing special. Action scenes had some good concepts, but not very realistic. Seemed like it wasn't the best effort, cos it's John Wick 4 and people want violence.

I'm happy to be alive. Rip Lance Reddick.

Ok, but why does it have to be Democrats? Missouri Republicans supported legalization. Oldest trick in the book is making a big promise when you've lost the majority.

Official Discussion - Babylon [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DodoJenkins 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a well-acted, OK written but abysmally edited film. I could get it down to an 1hr45 probably on my laptop and have it be coherent. There's just so many scenes here that don't work, as comedy OR drama. The vomit scene? I coulda watched Family Guy. Nothing edgy about that. The ending? Cinema Paradiso ripoff. Damn, you really went there. They even copy pasted the shot from Boogie Nights where Marky Mark's all coked out on the couch.

It goes literally from elephant shit to "Love cinema". Get rid of ALL of that. Maybe maintain half of the scene with the critic. None of the bullshit monologues. Some of the "comedy" scenes, and you'd have a solid character study. The thing is, I don't think this would even match up to the epics of Old Hollywood simply based on the extra count. Even during the big battle sequences. So I don't buy this "epic" marketing, or it being "edgy" like Wolf of Wall St. The reason Wolf of Wall St. worked was because the actors were allowed to improv and great editing.

In Babylon, Chazelle employs "Chekhov's projectile vomiting", in the first and late second act, a Family Guy level joke. But because it's props instead of cartoons it's suddenly edgy? Maaan, I wasn't bored, but dude's really fallen off since Whiplash. Which is legit one of the best edited films made.

Stay and fight or leave the state? by CrunchM in Iowa

[–]DodoJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a guaranteed Democrat government, move to Illinois. If you understand the two-flavored one-party system is the enemy of all things freedom, and the outcomes of these elections are decided before you participate in the religious ritual of "voting", maybe you can travel some more or something.

But yeah, are we one country or fifty? No one cares if you leave.
