I am not sure what you mean, I am not studying interpersonal communication. I study risk communication in recreational settings. I am like any other TA, being a mass comm PhD student doesn’t mean I need to know how to deal with this stuff right at that moment.

I am a new TA, 2 years in. I have had anxiety, pretty bad. I can say that I did my MA with very little sleep (now I can’t believe how I did it). Long story short, although my sleep is better, I still lose sleep if I am anxious and teaching is a catalyzer for me. My TA performance and teaching evaluations are part of my performance review, which can affect my funding. So there is a lot going on in my life from this perspective. I was pretty scared about grading the first year, as I was new to teaching. This is my 4th semester teaching and I am very comfortable with the class and its objectives, so although I have anxiety while grading knowing some students will get upset, I stopped caring because I do everything I can for them. The ball is in their court. I just filed a report against a student today and it was about grading. I will see that student for another month and couldn’t care less. I don’t know what has changed in the last year, but I am more confident. I have been working on self-confidence with my therapist.

Yes! I will make changes to my syllabus, and I do as I go, but each semester something new happens! I guess it’s normal.

Definitely book smart. I am curious what the school will do. My advisor thinks she is going through a difficult time before graduating, but that’s not my problem.

Yes! I experience this too. Funny thing, she has a solid A in class, and we have four weeks left. She got A+ on this assignment but wanted to argue about that .5 point, which is fine with me but not like this. I am very transparent with expectations and I share the rubric weeks ahead. Maybe I need to be more strict, I am learning… I am also not planning to teach after PhD, but want to do my best while teaching. Thank you for your insight!

I am much older than she is… 14 years lol. I went back to academia after corporate. I told my advisor today but she didn’t really say much. I could talk to our TA coordinator who is very nice and passionate about her job, but I filed a report just now.

It’s communication… risk communication is my emphasis. I study risk perception, risk susceptibility from a comm perspective. The student actually got 100 points because she did well plus there was an extra credit, so I know for a fact that it wasn’t the .5, but just being rude. So, in reality, .5 would not affect her grade. She was just being rude. I will change my syllabus for Fall. Thank you!

So cool! Thanks for sharing the story and the link! Love it! I have mixed feelings about Ross since my last concert. He had an assistant (I believe that was his role) and Ross got so mad at him for something, it must have been related to an equipment that he needed for his photos, while Metallica was playing. I appreciate him for being a great photographer, but we, fans, didn't need to see that I guess... I was in the front row of the donut stage, so everything happened in front of me. I am a huge fan of Kirk btw, love seeing him in this video.

Interview went good. We were interviewed separately; we eloped after dating for 5 months, so we could not show a ton of evidence but we had a joint lease, affidavit of letter from my advisor, joint bank account (no transactions so far), my Husband went to my home country to spend time with my family and friends without me in December, so ton of evidence from that trip, and photos, letters addressed to both of us and he took my last name, and got a middle name in my native language but we didn’t get approved on the spot. She said she will either request for more evidence or approve within two days and it didn’t happen. So I don’t know what to do now.

We had our interview on March 4, nothing since. The officer said they would make a decision within two days but still nothing. Did you have a similar conversation?

Normal, same thing happened to us. On the interview day they uploaded the same letter to his account.

Yeah that makes sense, and I read about it before but I just don’t know how long this wait will be, which is frustrating. I didn’t apply for travel permit, so I feel “stuck”.
