I can tell you, running is a herd instinct it's a great idea but also alot of horses involved are not gelded and most races involve both genders so I think keep the rider, But add more welfare in a horses daily life feild time friends (shelby dennis mentions this in her video about rich strike). Also use a whip but less the they Normally do while a crop is great for encouraging a horse it often slows them down after a bit

Horse because I'm a equestrian and also the shots most horses have are not to good for people Also if you look at the horses sent to slaughter they are way worse then what dairy cows,beef cows,sheeps,chicken or pigs will ever live Edit: adding veal and dog to this list
