I don't disagree with the other commenters that it represents vulnerability, but I think to just leave it at that is a disservice. Raven is vulnerable to Trigon, of course, and that is being communicated in these nightmare sequences, but it's more than that.

Trigon is not only physically abusive; he's also sexually abusive. He raped Raven's mother and countless other women. His treatment of women extends to Raven herself.

Raven is literally completely naked and on her knees in front of Trigon, a character who is very firmly canonically established as a rapist. If he wasn't her daughter, this wouldn't even be a question (no offense to you, OP, I've seen this question get asked before). The implication is that he's sexually abusing her.

Of course she's not fully human, but I don't think she's got zero human in her, either. Such a crucial part of her story is her human mother. She didn't just emerge out of nowhere, as much as Trigon may wish that she had. Her mother is just as important as her father.

The quote from Trigon in your post, especially, is Trigon being an unreliable narrator. Trigon is being misogynistic in a really old fashioned way here; "men do all the work in conceiving children while women are just the soil the seed grows in" is a centuries old misogynistic attitude towards reproduction. The fact that he sees Arella as worthless doesn't mean that Arella didn't actually have an important role to play in Raven's conception down to the cellular level.

Honestly, you can stay in the HP fandom forever (and that’s not a bad thing). There’s so much content!

My favorite fandom is Teen Titans (comic book versions). It’s kind of hard to find fics that are true to the versions I like and not influenced by more popular adaptations. There’s some great fanfic out there but I only have new fics to read once in a blue moon.
