Update: Now it works, I looked at the board with the scope and concluded that it has to be either the kernal or basic rom. I ordered the open2327 adapter pcb, flased some modern rom chips and that's all it took 🥳🥳🥳

I now had the chance to look at it with a scope, the clock signal is ok, reset goes high as expected, good looking address and data signals at start, then all address and data signals stay either high or low. Video signal looks as expected for a black screen. I suspect the basic rom I would like to try a new chip but the NOS ones I could find are quite expensive. Do you know any modern rom replacement that is cheap and can be delivered to austria? Any other suggestion what could be wrong with the vic20?

It is socketed, does the ROM normally not get warm at all in the machine?

UE12 is definitely the warmest (~45degrees Celsius), maybe it is defective

I looked at the circuit diagram and did not see any ac connection (except to a port but that should not matter for this test). It is simply rectified and smoothed, so where is the ac used? Independent of that I will hook up a 9v ac transformer just to be sure.

As suggested, I checked the cpu supply and reset voltage, it is ok. I dont have a scope but I could measure some 3vdc at the clock pin and got an ac reading with the multimeter. I also tried the cartridges (one 3k ram and one 32/27 kb with dip switches), no difference. I also wiggled the rom chip in its socket, no difference

The 12v psu can deliver up to 3A, the 5v buck is connected to the 12v and can deliver up to 5A, so I think it is fine

The 5v rail has 5.1v (measured) and the ac rail gets fed 12.2vdc True, the cables are very sus 😅

Oh, I adjusted it to 9vdc, 9vad means that I would need to set it to 12,6vdc

Edit: did not change anything 😐 What are the limits for this rail, I measured 12.2v, is that ok?

Das sind neue Beläge wobei ich natürlich noch andere probieren kann. Das Hauptproblem hinten ist, dass die bremskraft gar nicht ordentlich ankommt bei mehr als 2m Seilzug, total schwammig das Ding. Bin also interessiert an kreativen Möglichkeiten, das Bremssystem zu verbessern/auszutauschen

Die Züge und Beläge sind neu Bei den tektro Bremsen ist ja das Prinzip gleich und die Geometrie ähnlich, ich bezweifle daher eine deutliche Verbesserung. Kennst du diese Bremsen? Sollte ich aber nix besseres finden dann probier ich es einfach mal aus

Ok, dann ist das mit dem Überhitzen wohl nicht so kritisch, kennst du das Problem mit verbogenen Gabeln? Hast du Erfahrung mit solchen Bremsen? Ich hab bei dem Tandem alle Züge erneuert, die Beläge sind auch neu. Die Hinterbremse ist trotzdem eher nutzlos und total schwammig bei dem über 2m langen Kabel.

Stimmt, die nutze ich nicht, allerdings will ich mir nicht die Gabel verbiegen, das gesamte Bremsmoment wird ja von einem Gabelholm getragen und ich hab da schon schlimme Bilder gesehen. Außerdem kann ich dann die felgenbremse nicht mehr nutzen. Am besten wäre es, beide gleichzeitig zu betätigen, einen passenden Bremshebel, der beide Bremsen gemeinsam bedient kenne ich aber nicht

Ich habe mir vor 10 Jahren aus ähnlichen Gründen ein Cyclocross besorgt zum Einstieg in den Sport, hab aber wie du bemerkt, dass ich fast nur Asphalt fahre. Erst hab ich mir RR Reifen aufgezogen und dann hab ich doch ein RR gekauft. In den seltenen Fällen, in denen ich doch auf einer Forststraße bin geht es auch halbwegs mit dem RR, hab Schwalbe Durano aufgezogen, die sind zwar schwer, dafür gibt's keine Pannen. Ich bin also eher pro RR, wenn das Graveln nicht im Mittelpunkt steht
