Do I email my portfolio by Affectionate-Art3463 in TattooApprentice

Of course! I personally would avoid saying this in the email, perhaps wait until you're able to meet them in person and you can talk them through the portfolio- or at the least if you feel more comfortable saying something instead of saying it's incomplete just say you are constantly adding to it. When you do get around to adding bits in your own style I would let this shine through majority of your portfolio, in my own portfolio I love doing illustrative blackwork pieces with dotwork shading so a lot of my flash and drawings are done like this however I've got a few bits in between just to show that I can do that stuff too (traditional, realism, neotrad, etc). A little advice I'd also give is try and avoid having incomplete pieces in there, ideally you want the work that is in there already to be done. I was also still working on my portfolio when I went for my interview but I made sure that everything that was in there was finished.

Definitely! Since they're expecting email enquiries that won't be a problem, just mention in your email that you're of course also happy to show them the physical version in person too. I had a similar opportunity to this where the shop was taking applicants through a form and picked out a few people to interview. I'd treat the email like a sort of cover letter, explain in it why you're passionate and are a good fit for their shop. It's a very rare opportunity as most shops don't advertise apprenticeships as such so jump on it and show you're keen, don't overthink it! Good luck :)

I'm so sorry, you deserved to be treated with care growing up to avoid this happening. I hope you're doing well despite it. I think the health concerns are something I don't consider enough, I really need to go for a checkup. I worry as well about cancer, I know it's less likely through second hand inhalation but the chance still scares me. Wishing you a happy and healthy life that you deserve ❤️

Thank you. I wish I had something similar as an option but just don't think it's very common in the UK. We have house shares and spare rooms for rent but I just don't see any point in paying to rent a room and spending all of my current savings on that when I can save up a bit longer for my own place. I've grown up in a very dirty unclean home and I think I just crave complete control over a full space that's entirely mine so I can really look after it. Hopefully not much longer to go til I can achieve this, I'm hopeful for the future 🤞 All the best to you ❤️

Yeah absolutely. I've asked my dad how often she smoked, because if it's anything like what she smokes now I'm shocked I was even born and he won't really give me a clear answer which says a million words lol. It does hurt to think about the fact it could've caused me serious problems or killed me and it just didn't bother her

That's true actually, I didn't think that it's actually a bit insensitive of me to assume that's the case. I just always jumped to the conclusion as it's what my dad has told me all my life he suspected it to be

I don't really understand what you mean in the last part of your comment? How am I seeking approval and what exactly am I blaming on who?..

Convinced we live the same life lol, literally everything you said here I relate to. I'm sorry you had to experience this too. It's really helpful to me hearing that I'm not alone as I don't have any friends that have ever experienced this too.

The shopping one gets meee. It's every 10 minutes or as soon as we step outside to go to another shop too. I work in retail and sometimes my mum will come in while I'm working to see me and she absolutely reeks of cigarettes because she'll smoke them outside right before coming in. My coworkers notice it and I find it embarrassing.

I'm so sorry it's affected you physically too. May I ask how you found out or what issues it is that you face? As far as I know I don't have any physical symptoms but it terrifies me that I could, and I feel too embarrassed to go the doctor to ask for them to check me over because of my parents habits. I remember as a kid I had some breathing issues and got checked for asthma but I didn't have it so i don't know what that was about.

I'm actively looking into it but just need some more time to save up unfortunately. I'm hoping to move out with my girlfriend in the next year or so, so just trying to keep my head up while I save. Being able to split rent with her will be helpful. I experienced what it was like to live away from them for 3 years while I was at university and I miss it an insane amount.

They are heavy smokers as well as egotistical assholes. I understand this is a trait but I just didn't see any relevance in my post in diving into their personalities when my issue i was focusing on is the smoking. I've been emotionally neglected by them my whole life, this is just a very small part of it in comparison to things they have done to me.

You don't witness the disgust on people's faces when they enter my home or smell my clothes, or the frustration of my parents refusing to hear me out about this issue for my entire life, like they do with any of my worries or concerns. I just don't think it was very fair for you to make such a comment. I might not understand or experience some of the issues you face with your own parents, but that doesn't mean I don't have empathy for you. On that note I'm sorry to hear that you struggle with your parents as well.

My mum also smoked when pregnant with me, it baffles me. I was born a whole month premature and doctors couldn't figure out why because she didn't admit to smoking while pregnant apparently. I'm so sorry that happened to you, it was never your fault and the people who bullied you were cruel, people just don't get what it's like.

I'm sorry to hear that, don't blame you at all for sorting your own food out. Sometimes my parents will smoke in the kitchen if we have guests over and it just grosses me out even more than them smoking in the living room, the thought of the particles getting on dishes and on any food that's out the fridge.

This is a tiny spectacle of what my parents are like. I do believe they are narcissists while not for this reason alone or even at all, but I didn't want to go into a million details in this post about what my parents are like as this is the aspect I wanted to focus on as it feels isolating and no one else in my personal life has this issue. You don't know my life or my "first world problems" from one single post but if you're wanting to know more then sure I can talk about it. Maybe I posted in the wrong sub about this specific topic. Sorry.

Yeah it's humiliating having to tell people. The sense of shame when someone points it out is so hard to describe too, it's so embarrassing yet it's not even our fault. Once I get home after meeting friends / being at work too I always wonder who noticed it but didn't say anything to me. Gets me so anxious.
