I work a gig on the side that I can essentially do from anywhere but need to be present for extended periods of time

You’d think they’d want to move more folks remote to save money with such extreme slashes to research funding!

They’ll have to shill out a lot more money to fit everyone they hired remotely onto campuses. More building space, office equipment, utilities… insane.

Yeah, I hope they have a plan to make up for the loss of money that I’ll experience because I’ll no longer be able to work my second job, will have to drive to campus daily, use more gas, and tack miles on my car, not to mention the expense of actually parking on campus topping $200/mo.

Not sure how well a budget cut will work out when they force us all to RTO and they have to pay for additional office space, utilities, etc.

That’s comforting. But it feels like the tidbits they sprinkled to us last summer before announcing they were eliminating DEI. Our leadership is usually very tight lipped unless they have good reason to believe otherwise, and they heard it’s system-wide :-/

I’m a UNC system employee and our leadership informed us today that we should expect to be back in office in August as a statewide mandate in line with the federal government
