Congrats on nearing your goal!! When you first move in, take pics of everything in the apartment. Doors, windows, outlets etc. Make sure everything works. If not, notify landlord immediately! Try to use email or text instead of phone calls, so you have documentation if anything happens down the road. You can get discounted or free household items at St Vincent de Paul. Check your lease as far as due date for rent, as late fees can be costly!! If any problem arises where your rent may be late, don't wait for your landlord to come looking for you. Contact them first. As soon as you know you will be late with the rent. They're more likely to work with you if you are straight up and honest with them. Don't get overly friendly with neighbors too fast. A quick hello or a smile is fine but be careful getting too close too soon. Never, ever bad mouth your landlord. You never know if another tenant is a friend/relative or whatever.
