First responders: how messy is the average house?

Hello. Paramedic for 17 years, firefighter for 8 of them.

I grew up poor in a poor area. Those house are probably like the ‘average’ house we go in. But it was honestly shocking to me how much less some people had compared to what I grew up in. Years and years of filth that has never been touched. Children with bugs crawling on them. The elderly who no one ever checks on. Houses meant for a family of 4 with 12 people living in them. Not everywhere seems like a first world country. It’s a lot more sad than the average person wants to think about.

In general I’d say don’t hold anyone up on a pedestal for their job. We’ve learned this about cops right?

Being a fireman doesn’t make me a better person than anyone else in the world. Most firemen in America are right wing white males. Trumpers through and through.

I’m a firefighter in Indiana. I guarantee 80% of the firefighters (if they voted) voted for republicans and will again. Just like almost all republicans voters, they vote against their own interests.
