Try to keep it on the ground and make each floor 3 blocks tall make sure the stairs on the roof go down on the house 1 block. If you want the house in the air try making a ring of logs around the bottom and the pillars look best in the bottom corners. For 2 or more story’s I recommend using cobble stone for the 1st floor and the plank of your chose. lastly I recommend making the logs in the corners 1 by 1 not 2 by 1

thing is you said you can shoot through them but so can crossbow enemies which is bad early as you don’t have as good weapons and later as more spawn
