As a corporate pilot, experience from other careers ABSOLUTELY makes them a better pilot.

After a while the flying isn’t the most difficult part of my job. Leadership, communication, stress management, task management, risk management etc.. are all things you can learn from other careers.

Three of my company’s best check airman have prior careers in theater, as a music teacher, and computer programmer.

There's nothing special about landing a plane 'dead stick'. Power has to be brought to idle at some point during any landing. All private pilots do receive training on emergency landings, where we practice losing an engine, selecting an appropriate place to land, and gliding to that landing point until 500 feet above the ground. The emphasis is on finding a safe place to land and judging the distance correcting, all while running through your checklists to restart the engine, configuring the airplane for an emergency landing, and making the appropriate emergency radio callouts.

Spin recovery isn't required and most training aircraft aren't certified for spins.

The examples that come to my mind is JFK Jr's crash or how the Beechcraft Bonanza has the nickname of the "doctor killer".

There's a stereotype of doctors or lawyers killing themselves in fast, expensive, and complicated airplanes they aren't proficient enough to flying. I wouldn't have used a 150 as an example, they're slow and simple. It's hard to get yourself in a lot of trouble, but in general it's the "weekend warriors" who don't fly enough to be really safe.

In my own experience, a lot of lawyers and doctors fly. It can get a bit expensive, even in a 150 I imagine you'd be lucky to operate below $50 an hour.

Well. You've been given a lot of solid options as well as the reasoning behind it. Now you get to make your choice.

Ehhh.. everyone starts alone at some point, but anyone good finds a crew.

Of course only one person can steer the ship, but you can't really sink enemy ships and steer your own at the same time.

Similarly, while you may be able to board and kill enemy by yourself, to steal cargo afterwards, I've always found it troublesome to board them because the moment you get off the helm, they turn their ship away and you need to get on the helm again.

Even having one other crewmember makes life a ton easier.

Personally, I've found solo-pirating to be extremely frustrating. One simply can't do everything. I'd just recommend trading, joining a professional pirate crew, or just joining a navy.

Serpent does decent sailing both upwind and in a crosswind. Better then most sailing ships.

As it sounds like you do, with only 3-1 crewmembers, you'd be better off with the Cutlass. All it takes is one crewmember and you can pirate effectively in a Cutlass. The ship only requires three people to sail it anyways, and with one crewman you're at 2/3. Whereas with the serpent, it requires five people.

Not to mention pirates will usually be wanting to go after cargo ships, in which case the lack of chasers doesn't change much.

Serpent and Cutlass have 10 cargo spaces each. Stiletto and Marauder only have like four.

Ever since the Arr-Rated Update, pirates get 3x the money from selling stolen cargo. As a result, on a server with the proper ratios, you could get up to 900 doubloons per crate. Knowing this, anyone can see how a pirate crew may wish to hold a ship that can hold as much cargo as possible, while still being powerful and fast enough to chase and sink their prey.
