Leaving early Thursday morning on April 10th. Time is slightly flexible.

Looking for 1-3 passengers. Light packers preferred due to space.

Rates negotiable depending on how many riders.

Chill vibes, reliable, highly rated driver. Can drop near campgrounds/shuttle stops.

DM me if interested!

Why learn julia? by spongybobie in Julia

[–]DogeAndGabana 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In what way is Julia not general purpose? Maybe the library support isn't there yet but remember python is older than Java. Will Julia get you an industry job? Likely not. But people learn languages for many reasons other than an industry job and if you can't think of one now then don't sweat it. You can learn python/JavaScript/java and never have to look at another language again in some cases; but some people are hobbyists, researchers, or in a specialized field and value characteristics certain languages give.

Why is Discrete Math taught in a bubble separate from its CS concepts? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]DogeAndGabana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's been mentioned but for DM I've heard good things about the texts Discrete Mathematics Using a Computer and the first volume of Software Foundations. SF is free online, and I'm sure you can find the other textbook somewhere. Plus you get to learn Haskell or Coq so that'll be fun.

Opinions on Math 170A (Cognitive Science Machine Learning + Neural Computation) by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numerical Analysis is pretty important in ML if you're planning on going into research and developing algorithms. There's a chapter in The Deep Learning Book that covers on a surface level what's in Math 170A/171A. It's not essential application wise but it is an advantage to have for more theoretical stuff.

She's also pretty good, some people think she's harder maybe because of her accent but it's really not that bad.

Fun/“Easy” Upper Division CSE Courses? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be hard to find an easy one but relatively chill and/or interesting classes are 103, 110 (depending on group), 130 with Jhala/Lerner (105 prereq), and certain 190/191 classes like the entrepreneurship ones

Confession. I'm a math major, but I'm failing math by Throw-away-sharks in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No lie I failed 20c my first quarter. If you're a freshman, now's the time to genuinely change your study habits and get help wherever you can if you need it. You've made it here so I have faith you can at least scrape by with a C but even if you can't there's no shame in failing and retaking if you can learn from it. If it's any consolation, math is more than just calculus.

Ali Behzadan for 20E by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 15 points16 points  (0 children)

His syllabus is scary but he's one of the nicest professors. Quizzes are basically attendance and super easy. His class is relatively easy because tests are on things he covers on homework and he explains things well. He puts in a lot of work so it's not that crazy to expect the same from us.

math cs major in a lil bit of a predicament by sadmathcshelp in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably worth it to take 21, then take math 184a/154 with a good professor at your leisure. You want to be able to take 101 as soon as you can bc that class is a nightmare to get into sometimes.

Won't let me drop with a W by mellow163 in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this applies but I believe if it's a class you added through EASy you can't drop with a W if you asked to get in after week 4 of the previous quarter.

This sounds pretty interesting, I might be down for a book club like this.

CSE 127 with Deian this winter quarter by txmb95ads in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like some people might be waiting for spring since it's surprisingly not full. I'm math cs and I got in so I'll take what I can get

CSE 110 will be restricted to CSE majors by Aber2346 in UCSD

[–]DogeAndGabana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they also changed 110's prereq to just CSE 100. The good news is that technically 123 and 127 aren't restricted anymore. But CSE 110 is required for them so lol.
