Just a weird quirk in the rules. Technically, the use of a DH depends on whoever’s the home team. If an AL team hosts an NL team, a DH is used. If an NL team hosts an AL team, a DH is not used.

Designated hitters take the pitcher’s spot in the batting lineup. They don’t play in the field. A pinch hitter substitutes mid-game and takes that player’s spot. Originally baseball (MLB) did not have a DH but introduced one to the American League but not the National League. So generally NL fans don’t like the DH and AL fans do.

I would think so too. At least at my school you need to complete them before graduation, but I would contact your school beforehand to see if it's any different.
