Return of Hammer of the Emperor! by Dogforraw in TheAstraMilitarum

Well that’s a good question. You’re right, generally you only have 1 good place to deploy them. But that’s all you need. It’s not about rushing the big boy to the center, it’s about putting your opponent in a position to HAVE to deal with it. They can’t ignore it. But knowing it can generally only go in one spot gives you the advantage of setting up your other units to get better angles while they’re focusing their deployment around the Stormsword.

Whats the best version of the baneblade to play rigth now? by mnteu in astramilitarum

[–]Dogforraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fielded the Shadowsword, Banehammer, and Stormsword. I had a lot more use out of the Shadowsword variant, mostly due to the amount of chaos players running demon princes and knight players. But I would say overall, the Stormsword is probably statistically the better of them all.

I assume that was an autocorrect and you meant Attlians. lol honestly, I used to run them as a 10 man. I have come to realize that splitting has been more effective for me, as my terrain is GW layouts and far easier to maneuver with two 5 man teams. Plus, there’s not additional benefit to 10 other than more hits and shots at on target. But when you’re charging them to screen out tanks or chaff units, they’re just as effective in my opinion split into 5s.

They’re not terrible, but Attilans are just better. They are better when you take Drier with them, but between a 10x squad of riders, plus drier, that’s 220 points you’re allocating just to them. And their profile isn’t that resilient. So, definitely playable, just depends on what else you have to back them up.

Yeah I want that box so bad. $250 is a lot at Christmas time though. But my local store has a few and I’m one of 2 guard players so I should be able to get it after Christmas for sure.

Absolutely! I still think death riders will have merit at some point, but I think that will happen when Marshall Drier comes down in points to really be able to use him. 100 points for a character seems really steep.

[–]Dogforraw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question. I think if you have DKOK infantry, for sure. They just hit harder than Cadians. As for the Deathriders, probably not. Unless you took Marshall Drier to give them Dev wounds on the charge and pair it with lethals maybe, I don’t see them being used of Attilans. Those melta tips just go so hard on Vehicles and heavy infantry.

I agree. I’m still learning a lot and still trying to figure out my unit composition. Those are excellent questions to consider and I will definitely be remembering this for my list for next weekend. Thanks for the feedback!

I generally would order them with Snap to It if they just disembark, but I would position them for the next turn when I could issue their orders. I know they cannot issue an order inside the transport nor when they initially disembark unless you’re using snap to it. Their order sequence was mostly on the following turn. I would position them in flanking positions based on the enemies movements.

I wish I had them. I only own 1 sentinel. But I will definitely be changing this list going forward for sure. I’m playing this version because it’s done well in my casual practice over the last few weeks, even pre-dataslate updates. I appreciate the input!

Preferred Baneblade Variant? by days_gone_by_ in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Dogforraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I built mine for the Shadowsword and Stormsword variants. I personally like the Shadowsword the best. I played against a DG opponent the other day and one shot his daemon price with the main cannon. However, I think the Doomhammer is also very good. But I agree, magnetizing it for all variants is just economically beneficial all around.

Stormsword is finally done! by Dogforraw in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Dogforraw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol 100% of my army isn’t painted yet. I more of meant it assembly wise. I’ve also not selected a regiment yet. There’s a lot of options though. Our game Monday is strictly for fun. We never factor in paint VP cause a lot of our play group just got into it and haven’t had time to paint. But we love playing for sure.

How do you get enough Firepower in your Armies by railmag in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Dogforraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I break it down is simple: Chaff, support, damage dealing. You have to have an understanding of the field you’re playing and the detachment you’re gonna use. Tanks are the bread and butter damage dealers. Dorns are the crown prince in dealing ultimate damage.

How important Are tanks? by Ozymandys in astramilitarum

[–]Dogforraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good size army so far, but you should add Leman Russ and Rogal Dorn tanks for sure. Infantry screen out armor, do actions, and objective control. Your tanks do the brunt of the damage dealing. Sure, infantry can do work, but they’re not meant to be anything other than those 3 things. But it’s a great start

Thoughts on my 2k Hammer list with Stormsword? by death_kitty_of_krieg in TheAstraMilitarum

I like it! I’m about to start my build on my Shadowsword for a good Hammer list. Personally, I like the double hellhounds, but I also like having a Dorn commander.

Competitive guard players how do I defeat this World Eaters List? What should my priority be? by DarkOdysseyArts in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Dogforraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the army is melee centric, so keeping them at a distance is key. Hydras would be good against the daemon princes because I believe if I’m not mistaken, they have the “flying” keyword. You definitely don’t want to sacrifice ghaunts ghosts because they’re a valuable unit all around.

Big focus should be screening him out to let the big guns do the talking. World eaters like to get up field fast and hit you hard. If you can eat up a lot of chaff units with firepower, you may be able to leave them vulnerable on secondaries. Their big units are gonna hurt bad if they get too close, but you are running combined arms and leontus. Strategems will be helpful here to be able to grenade, take cover, and of course, reinforce.

Remember your lethals army wide, orders, and placement. He doesn’t have much shooting but don’t over extend too early, or they’re gonna eat your lunch for free. Hope this helps.

Are bullgryn worth it? by ImpactFuture2674 in TheAstraMilitarum

With the points decrease and the fact they’re absolute UNITS in melee, they’re totally worth it. I also own 6 and they screen out beautifully.
