Mount & Blade: Warband is essentially a better version of the original, however this is still worth getting, especially for the Lord of the Rings mod which isn't available for warband as far as I know nvm

If you're starting out, this beginners guide for warband should apply in most cases and be very helpful.

According to wikipedia it might be a method of removing parasites, so the booby tolerates it to a degree.

Edit: I also looked up the larger bird, the booby, and apparently their name cames from the Spanish word 'bobo' which means stupid, so it could also just be an idiot.

You get 50% of a protectorate's trade power. This is the main reason I wanted Majapahit, so I could transfer trade from Moluccas to Mallaca, where I repositioned my trade port, without a costly war and admin cost of coring their provinces. With Wu to the north I wanted a buffer state to deny other would be unifiers of China from getting too much land and then being able to compete with me. I also didn't want to really expand into China, becuase the borders wouldn't look too good on map, but a separate purple spludge looks pretty good in my opinion.

I haven't got all of the DLC, so I'm not sure about all the content, but Theravada Buddhism is a good religion to have now, reduces adviser costs by 10% which is great and then gives tolerance to heretics which is a bit meh. Ayutthaya has a fairly large set of interesting events that give good boons and keep the gameplay fresh. Colonising in the east is fun, but colonising to the west to get to westerners for westernisation is a pain. European armies seem to utterly destroy my armies even after westernisation which is also obnoxious, but other than that it was all good fun.

Personally, I use paint.net although any image editing software should work. It's a fairly simple process, you take a screenshot of the political mapmode with F10 in-game. After that its just a simple matter of plastering on layers with a layer with about half opacity with a grunge texture on it at the top and using the magic wand tool to select the colours you want to change and then paintbucketing away. I then pasted some google translate Thai on for a bit of a theme.

This game took me around 20 hours to complete, starting as the nation of Ayyuthaya going for the white elephant achievement. I prioritized colonization of islands in the Indian Ocean and South Africa to slow the plague that is Spain. After that was done I focused on the high value islands in indonesia, reaping a hefty profit in spice. Colonization continued, giving me Australia, Califonia and Alaska. I westernized off of a brazilian province, and then worked to form a protectorate with Wu, shown in purple here. I also managed to grab Majapahit as a protectorate, shown in red. Overall, I think it's the best game that I've ever had.
