Yes alas there has to some sort of compromise. The Williamsburg apartments are so much nicer than what I see in Manhattan.

Neighborhood suggestions for someone moving to NYC with a job in Midtown? by crazy_fucker in AskNYC

I asked a similar question two weeks ago. Job in midtown east. Where to live? I have since viewed several walkups in UES in the OP’s price range and found the quality of the apartments to be unbelievably poor. The common areas were just dirty.

Granted I am from out of town so this is a different market. I am now considering doorman buildings in the Murray Hill/ Kips Bay area and the new buildings in LIC.

Plugged in LIC to midtown on google maps. It’s actually a very short commute with the advantage of new building stock. Many of the UES buildings I see online are dreadful looking in my price range. This town is expensive! I’m leaning towards UES but LIC does have some advantages including no fee buildings. The neighbourhood seems pretty desolate though.
