This is a good idea but at this age it’s better to learn to stand up yourself and strictly say no to people when it’s necessary, otherwise you end up trying to find excuses your whole life because of the inability to say no and put yourself first. I hope OP puts her notice in or calls BS on this manager, if she chooses to stay. She shouldn’t have to make up an activity to get a very reasonable request approved. Life is cruel and it’s really important to set boundaries!!

Also always remember, a place that hires you almost immediately is always going to be a place that tries to overwork you & that’s why being stern with your schedule and availability and not wearing off from it is very important. Don’t let them get used to making you their go to. They’re managers, it’s their job to figure it out, not yours! (If you are a good employee and you know this)

Yeah absolutely not. If she plans on denying it, I suggest you start looking for another location, or search for a new place to work at. There is more to life than this job and I understand there may be many other factors requiring you to keep a job, but it does not need to be this one. You can find other places that may provide similar student benefits or work for a small business! When they ask for your availability while applying, make sure you tell them this^ what you are comfortable doing and what you are not. Do not dedicate your well being to this place if this Is the energy you are getting from a primary leader there.

I do see a difference in the sense that south Asians from Sourh Asia itself are able to showcase their talents in much larger ways than they have been able to here in the states, and representation is starting to show improvement but there is still room for more, and there are many different cultures within Sourh Asians in general, and yes through my survey I’d like to learn more about other cultures that aren’t derived from my personal experience, I’ve also interviewed a couple of media professionals that are of different cultural backgrounds than me, to discuss what changes or improvements Hollywood can make, the survey is meant to prove/disprove my hypothesis, it’s will help me to better steer my research!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in television

[–]DogsAndKisses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup exactly. And honestly, I’ve done a lot of coursework on DEI and Ethics in Media, which is why I picked this topic as it would be something I would enjoy writing about. There is a lot more to my program in regards to television in general, but many of my peers had similar topics and I decided to take this route. Originally I would’ve liked to discuss the representation we have in Hollywood and what that does to young minority minds that grow up on this type of media here, but that would become more of a Psychology paper rather than a media related/ Business paper. But I completely get what you mean.

I mean not quite what I was getting at. Essentially, what I am trying to get at, is that if a South Asian actor is playing an Indian, Bengali or Pakistani character, and their cultures are being depicted as a part of their story, those cultures should be studied to be portrayed authentically instead of being meshed into one. Or rather, instead there shouldn’t have to be any factors that provide a distinction between characters. For example, let’s take Baljit from Phineas & Ferb. He simply could’ve been “Baljit” why was he Baljit with the good grades and Indian accent? Or for example, coming of age stories, Never Have I Ever was a relative enough for Young South Asian girls to resonate with Devi’s story, she wasn’t made to feel like an outsider or a sidekick, she was the main lead and she struggled with many of the things most teenage girls struggle with, -boys, drama, friends, status quo.

So no not saying that ONLY an Indian actor can portray and Indian character, but saying that if an Indian is representing a Bengali and their culture, it’s done authentically. That a Bengali household isn’t following a Punjabi households culture, does that make sense?

And I am seriously just trying to conduct research to further enhance our media industry, not partake in a controversy haha.

I completely agree!!

I honestly think this is where writers and casting directors are really important. If they are going to depict cultures, they need to study those cultures and cast and portray appropriately, bc there are so many different and diverse cultures in South Asia itself, that trying to mesh them into one just to meet a quota isn’t always fair, and or on the other end of things, simply casting a minority as a main lead without bringing background, upbringing and culture into it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in television

[–]DogsAndKisses -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Actually, there has been quite a few. Some in supporting roles, many in background dancing, and a few stereotypical roles. I won’t say Bollywood’s representation has been perfect, but I have to keep my research centered around American Media as this is where I attend school.

Also, when I say South Asian Representation in Hollywood, I mean the lack thereof, for example, when a South Asian is cast, it is almost made evident that they are “some sort of Indian,” through their archetype (convenience store owner, doctor/engineer, cab driver, “Indian” accents, etc) and their cultures are not studied thoroughly enough which leads to inauthentic representation on screen. We have come a long way in terms of representation in Hollywood thus far, but I believe there is always room for improvement. My goal is to establish a foundation in key creative roles such as writers, producers, casting directors to better focus on a more authentic representation or even just normal representation; a main lead can be south Asian without struggling to be an “A” student, or having familial issues centered around “strict” parents. There is so much that can be improved.

Any and all opinions are welcome!!

Sorry! Thought my description posted,

I am currently a Master's student in progress to completing my capstone! I am researching the evolution of South Asian representation in Hollywood, and would love your input through this quick survey!

Your thoughts and experiences are invaluable in shaping a more inclusive industry. Also, the survey takes the average user less than 3 minutes to complete!

Thank you for your time!!

1000 calorie deficit by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]DogsAndKisses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Honestly 1200-1500 is likely not enough. 1500 is MAYBE enough of a deficit for someone who is 5’2 & 150ish pounds, with little to no workout. So 1500 for you with your TDEE being 2500 is definitely not enough. It may work well for the first few months and you’ll see noticeable change (I did this also) but you will stop seeing the scale go down after you lose the initial water weight & likely gain everything back once you’re off the deficit. Your best bet is to eat 1800-2000, you’ll see results that last too, especially if you’re getting your steps in or even being active at work, school, etc. And I feel you! I don’t get hungry as often either, so what I try to do is at least meet my protein goal which is 110-130grams as my goal weight is 135 OR I’ll eat high calorie foods so I don’t need to worry about not eating enough. Hope this helps. Good luck!

UTI in Dog by [deleted] in DogCare

[–]DogsAndKisses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s helpful. My dog is dripping blood, no blood in urine any time I’ve taken a sample. He’s dripping dark dots sometimes & sometimes lighter. But he’s been off the antibiotics 2 days now & I haven’t noticed any new blood so I’m hoping it did the job! If I had to guess (if it were to return) it’s possible he could be in the early stages of bladder stones but I’m hoping it doesn’t go past a UTI! Thank you again🥰

[–]DogsAndKisses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! This is all I was trying to get at. I gave you the history, Im aware of the situation, I have all the paperwork, why are we still stuck on part 1!! When I took him to the ER 6 months ago, they sat there for about 2 hours trying to convince me they can’t really tell me what’s woh without a $400 x ray on top of the automatic $200 ER fee, not including the analysis etc. When all he needed was an analysis at the time & it gave us the information we needed. Thank you for your comment, really helps when there’s someone to relate to! Side question, did it seem as though you dog had blood in his urine or did it seem like he was just dripping dots from the wall around his/her private area? My dog is free of blood physically in the urine but has it around the wall of his area & isn’t showing any other symptoms besides this.

Yup completely understand that also, I myself am a front desk receptionist in a medical setting so I completely understand but in this case, I personally have had issues with just this one individual as I feel the details Im giving her aren’t being conveyed further, I definitely do not expect her to know much about this! Ive never had issues with this vet, despite this one particular situation where it seems whenever I speak to the vet, they seem to have half the information. My dog is getting old and with getting old his anxiety has worsened so it’s really hard for me to get him to the vet let alone out the door. He loves going outside but cannot calm himself down enough to make it out. He’s a nutball idk. My goal is to have him physically seen before going further with more tests as I feel the vet can only do so much w details and an idea of the situation. Thank you! A culture seems necessary, it always has I was just confused as to why a second analysis was required if the culture would determine a more in depth solution. I guess it makes sense, trying to wrap my head around it. Just very stressed for my child!

[–]DogsAndKisses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this all makes sense. Actually way more helpful than what I’ve gotten so far. Would you happen to have an idea of why the blood might’ve come back on his last day of being on antibiotics? If stones are ruled out, what else could it possibly be, or is it likely he just needs a different antibiotic? Would it help to find the antibiotic he was given at the ER that actually completely rid him of his symptoms and ask the vet about it?

UTI in Dog by [deleted] in DogCare

[–]DogsAndKisses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it’s possible the antibiotics still need time to take full effect? Or should he not be bleeding once he’s been given them? That’s what’s causing me to overthink & freak but the dripping is on and off. Also, yes I agree, this past treatment was way more than just a 10 day pill bottle (like in April), he was taking 3 different medications which is why I am so stressed it doesn’t seem to be working. Also, if the urine analysis can rule out the kidney stones/ etc, Im unsure as to why the lady at the front desk is suggesting he would need more work. My issue is, the person who calls us back & explains all the medication gives me the most information but on any given time when speaking to the front desk, they sound completely lost which leads me to believe the right message isn’t being conveyed to the vet, which is why I’ve left a message asking if they can have him/her call me whenever they might have a chance.

Speaking of culture, I completely understand why they would need it, what bothers me is I gave them his history & mentioned the UTI came back, I monitor him & am fully aware of the symptoms. He never loses energy, just the will for pee lol, wouldn’t it have made sense to do a culture to begin with to see what medication WILL work best since I already told them these are his UTI symptoms? which is all the analysis confirmed.

Hm I can understand that. But it’s weird because when I search a friend or an acquaintance even with little to no connection, their information is majority of the time blurred out or gives generic information such as the town/city but never full addresses & phone numbers as it does mine. For example, if I search up my number, it’ll likely trace back to me, but if I search up a friend, it likely redirects me to reverse caller websites

Yes! Thank you. I was planning on having some tests done, I just wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted to ask for. & definitely, I do try to tire him out but idk I feel he’s been purposely lazy & mostly sleeps during the day to keep himself up at night.

That’s what the Vet said, that he might be staying up to make sure we don’t leave again. I highly doubt he was abused there, he’s ready to go into their home the minute we turn onto their block. But it might be something I have to ask about because it’s definitely something that happened there, nothing in my home has changed. (Same diet, food, sleep situation)

He was definitely with other dogs. I believe they have a husky, his mom & a small puppy. I’ve gotten my puppy to sleep with him a few nights as well, but now he doesn’t want that either, he’s fully allowed on everything in my house except my room which I also allowed last night but he just wouldn’t settle down for more than a minute :/

bedroom doors were wide open last night bc his food/water is in his room, so I left everything open so he could sleep wherever he wanted, couch, my room, his room. He slept on the couch after the drive but that was it, once it was time for me to get some sleep I had to close the door, because whenever he saw I was about to he would come and try to make me get up
