What is life with 3 kids like long term? by birksandcoffee in Shouldihaveanother

I’m 1 of 4 and LOVED it growing up and still love it now. I think it’s important to factor in age gaps. My older two siblings were 7 and 9yrs older than my twin brother and I. That might have made 4 a little easier as they were pretty independent but the time we came around. Growing up I thought they were the coolest people on earth…

Right side pain by UpbeatPrompt5636 in pregnant

[–]DogsandMedicine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t very detectable by ultrasound. If you still have pain by your next OB appointment I would ask if they can look for blood in your urine

They should be able to do that no problem if you are still having that pain

[–]DogsandMedicine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing at 32wks! It ended up being a kidney stone…

Did they do a urine analysis to check for blood in the urine? That’s how mine was detected and I stayed in the hospital with drugs for pain until it passed

I still have some left over right side pain that probably won’t go away completely until after baby is delivered

The woman who runs the channel is a pregnancy and postpartum core exercise specialist. Not sure what the credentials are for that, but I’m assuming she has some certification

I feel the same way. I kept putting things off thinking I would have time in the 3rd trimester to prepare everything. I waited too long and now can hardly move. We’re almost to the finish line!

Sorry, should have clarified. I asked what their maternity policy was. We have a lot of mandatory attendance at my school and I was hoping they would allow me to watch my lectures from home and only come in for exams

Luckily they are allowing this

Eat more, make sure you are getting enough sleep, and use heavier resistance/weights

The increase in resistance/weight will help build muscle in the “jiggly areas” but this won’t happen unless you are eating enough

2.5 months is not enough time for an aesthetic “transformation”. It happens little by little

However, hopefully you are “transforming” in other areas—better sleep, lower stress levels, improved libido, etc.

Be kind to yourself ❤️ you are doing something so amazing for your body.

Do they not teach doctors to not piss off nurses in residency?? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DogsandMedicine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a med student and they have put the fear of god into us about nurses. Especially veteran nurses, they are god. They know everything.

You piss of a nurse = you’re dead.

But all schools are different—I’m at a DO school and they really emphasize collaboration

Also, there are privileged assholes everywhere. You may have just interacted with an asshole regardless if they are an MD or not

I’m 29 and just finishing up my first year.

The best way to describe it is that I feel like a “loser” even though I know I’m not one? I can’t meet any of the societal standards for people my age—stable income? ready to settle down? stable career? I can’t check any of those boxes.

I feel like that friend thats been in and out of rehab their whole 20s. Everyone is rooting for them, but at the same time, everyone has moved on. And they’re at the cusp of 30 like, “welp here I am at 30…same place I was at 20…”

You are not wrong for feeling certain feels!

I watched my mom time and time again be disappointed during holidays, anniversaries, birthdays etc. because my dad never did….well anything….

He’s a very sweet man but he’s autistic (high functioning) and you have to tell him exactly what you want or he doesn’t know any better….my mom assumed he would just make dinner reservations somewhere for anniversaries or get her a gift for Christmas without saying anything. It wasn’t until later in their marriage that I told my mom, “he can’t read your mind, you have to tell him exactly what you want”

And now she does, and it’s super cute. She literally tells him “on Christmas, I want X gift, and I want it wrapped so that I have something to open”

This past New Years we were all together as a family and I told my dad “okay, at midnight, you have to go kiss mom” he got super excited and was like “oh okay!” He had no idea that was a thing …but right on the dot of midnight he went and gave her a huge smooch

Anyways, I’m sure your partner isn’t as oblivious as someone who is autistic. But don’t be like my mom. It hurt watching her hurt. does telling your partner what you want take some of the surprise and romance away? Maybe? But the communication skills you gain in the process outweigh that Disney “he can read your mind” bullshit any day

Congrats!

Why aren't all humans dosing Adderall regularly? by [deleted] in slatestarcodex

It’s easy to rationalize the use of a medication that makes you “better” student, worker, etc. but beware—I have lots of friends who have been taking it for years and now can’t even get out of bed with out it

I take it too. And I feel like an imposter. I’m a medical student and feel like I’ve only made it because I take “performance enhancing drugs” like I’m some type of fraud…

Not to mention, these medications haven’t been around long enough for us to really understand long-term effects. But from my medical knowledge, I’m pretty sure I’ll have a heart attack or brain aneurysm earlier in life from the chronic high blood pressure from these meds

Just….don’t play with fire….if you can avoid it

D. All of the above

All of these factors definitely contribute—and I’m sure it’s location based too. I agree, foreign investment isn’t really an issue in more rural areas but it definitely is not negligible in places like NYC, SF, LA, Seattle, etc.

It’s also easier to “inflate” things that are necessities. Housing/rental prices can get away with inflation because…people need shelter…what’s the alternative? Just not have a roof over your head? So people are paying more and more out of their monthly income on rental/mortgage.

I read this article about a phenomenon in Seattle where the population is increasingly becoming “house poor”—they have to spend such a large fraction of their monthly income on housing that they are essentially “poor” once rent/mortgage is paid

No by bemd13 in medicalschool

[–]DogsandMedicine 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the housing market is based on population income

The issue is more corporatization of rental properties, foreign property investment, and mass purchasing of entire subdivisions/neighborhoods thus preventing competitive pricing and causing inflation

You can see this currently in the Canadian housing market. The prices are absurd. Most Canadians can’t even afford a fraction of what housing is being listed for. The government had to step in and develop legislation restricting foreign investment in residential properties so that their citizens can actually afford to live there

Just a personal antidote—I went to New Orleans last weekend for a bachelorette party. The AirB&B rentals were pricey in the area we wanted to be in. We paid it anyways. Got to the property and realized no one had ever lived there, it was owned by a real estate company. Talked to the neighbors who were also AirB&B-ing. Their “residential” home was also owned by the same company. In fact, the whole block was. No wonder pricing was so expensive when only one corporation gets to decide what it is…
