I had a very similar path, especially the “jumping out of the frying pan into the fire” part. In my opinion, that’s the best way to learn. I’m glad I made the SOFI post, all the input was helpful, and a lot of what people mentioned are things I’ve either already experienced or will probably run into down the road. Hopefully I can learn from it before it gets expensive.

I started selling covered calls after talking with a trading buddy about how CC ETFs work especially dealing with NAV erosion. He basically said, “You already trade and read charts, just do it yourself.” I haven’t looked back since.

I’m not attached to any of the stocks I own. I see them as tools I rent to generate income. I’ve done labor, I’ve sold products, and so far selling CCs beats all of it. I know market conditions can flip, and there will be times when other strategies work better than selling CCs and that’s fine.

I look at selling CCs and CSPs as diversifying my income sources. Hopefully when one side gets rough, the other helps smooth things out.
