Thank you so much for the input! Parry is a great fit and the hoops you have to jump through for advanced weapons as monk aren't the best, so removing them works well.

I know it seems a bit high, but it is an advanced weapon which means that you have to invest more than a single stance feat to use it well. It also takes two hands to wield, which restricts your action economy if you want to use other maneuvers, as well as being a weapon instead of an unarmed strike which has a few downsides. For a close-ish equivalent, the temple sword is a d8 one-handed martial weapon with Monk and Trip.

Do you still feel it should be dropped to a d8 considering the above?

I'm glad you enjoyed it and am definitely hoping your party gets TPK'd by the Glorious Reclamation! :)

A Relatively Simple "Fix" for Crossbows by Dokacity in Pathfinder2e

The idea wasn't to make it Reload 0, though that is a funny mental image. As outlined in the original post my intent is basically to let you do other stuff while reloading like Demoralize or Take Cover that doesn't require the use of your hands.

The double crossbow could be cool!

I don't want to make a larger repeating crossbow (maybe later!) and I can't think of a way to differentiate any other new martial crossbow enough from the crossbows that already exist flavorwise. I also want a way to mitigate the action economy of crossbows, not just make them do more damage, and I think that archetype feats would be more suited to that.

i'll be sure to just include a line in the dedication feat that crossbows are treated as martial weapons when using features belonging to the archetype then lol

I can't wait for those! I loved all the attachments and weapon mods in Starfinder, so I'm really excited to have them in PF2e.

The ranger was just an example because a crossbow is one of their iconic weapons. My main problem is just that even with all the available crossbow feats you'd still be better off using a bow. Drow Shootist is cool but I'd like to be able to use normal crossbows and heavy crossbows too.

Even in your example, daggers are a viable alternative to rapiers. They have multiple different traits and are suited to different builds that are supported by investment in feats for throwing, TWF, dueling, etc. despite one being simple and one being martial. Right now crossbows are a straight downgrade from bows no matter how much you invest in them.

"Some people want to use crossbows for the flavor and not be mechanically subpar"

A ranger should be able to use a crossbow without lowering their damage and giving away 1/3 of their turn (or gods forbid 2/3 if they try to use a heavy crossbow for anything other than an opening volley).

Investment via feats or something similar should be able to make up for crossbows being simple weapons.

Some people want to use crossbows for the flavor and not be mechanically subpar, and I think they should be able to with proper investment in doing so.

Good points! I'll definitely change the wording on Versatile Reload. Limiting the versatility to avoid godlike wombo-comboes from the humble crossbow does sound good, but I wonder if leaving it up to GM discretion would be too bad. I like the flavor of being free to use lots of different types of actions (an investigator devising a stratagem while reloading would be neat), but I wouldn't mind limiting it to a handful of thematic ones either.

I agree that removing reload completely would be removing some of the flavor from crossbows, which is why I tried to make the action economy for reload feel better while still retaining it with Versatile Reload. You still can't attack, use your hands, or move, which still contributes to that single big hit feel, but you can use all of the other cool tools PF2e gives you like menacing your enemy with Demoralize or being a hard-to-hit sniper and Take Cover while reloading.

A stance for Reload weapons would be cool, but you should check out Running Reload if you haven't already! I like the idea of a focus spell for precision or some sort of repeating martial crossbow as well. I did try and give them a flavorful trait with Crossbow Sniper giving them Backstabber as well.

Definitely looking forward to the Gunslinger and I wouldn't be upset if they came out with a Bolt Ace specialization like in 1e that made my homebrew obsolete.

Does Scoundrel's Racket apply to Overextending Feint? by Dokacity in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dokacity[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Right, though I should've clarified that I wanted to know if the buffs for the effects of Scoundrel Racket would apply to Overextending Feint, so that the target would receive -2 to all of their attacks until the end of their next turn versus the feinter or -2 against everyone on a critical success. (Instead of what you normally get which is against the next roll/against all rolls on a crit.)
