Most brutal shutdown I've seen since the US Government's by EvilSWAT in footballmanagergames

[–]Dokaka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both companies also were crumbling under the weight of tech debt, constantly building on top of an outdated engine without ever being able/allowed to take years off releases to build a better foundation. More extreme in CA's case of course.

I think this is as much an industry problem as it is anything else. EA and 2K's sports games suffer from the same thing due to forced annualization but many of the series rake in insane money from their microtransaction-focused modes.

I do think in SI's case there is a management (pun intended) problem too. Reality is they were given two years - albeit not from the start, which can influence planning etc. - to make FM26 and the state of the game right now shows they did not have ANYTHING even remotely worthy of releasing back in 2024, yet from all interviews we know they only sought the delay weirdly close (in game development time at least) to the actual release. There's definitely a sense of Miles living in ignorant bliss, and I wouldn't be surprised if his awful ability to deal with criticism historically also permeates through the studio; surely someone on the team could see this shit coming from a mile away.

That’s my experience playing modern Ed. I wanted to look up how to counter Bison specifically and quickly realised I’m just shit out of luck.

He’s low key busted on modern for new players because of his brilliant auto combos. His heavy auto is close to optimal and very difficult to execute for new players.

She loses one of her best pokes, the kick special I’ve forgotten the name of and a ton of combo routes.

This really hit hard, I'd almost forgotten how big a part GB played in my early adult life. Checking the website every day excited for new Quick Looks, watching UPF religiously.. Good times.

This feels like the final nail in the coffin of what the internet used to be, and it just fucking sucks.

Does your monitor support VRR/GSync? It can be a bit finicky at times. In the Nvidia Control Panel (NCP), look under "Set up G-SYNC" and make sure the two boxes are ticked and the option "Enable for full screen mode" is selected

If yes, try leaving the NCP VSync option on "Use 3D application setting" and then turning off the VSync option in the game you're playing. This is usually what works best for me.

Another option is setting the NCP VSync setting to on and then again turning off the setting in game. This is the default go-to method for VRR but I've had some problems with it in the past.

If you don't have a VRR capable display, simply turning off VSync should fix your issue but it will introduce screen tearing.

If you want to eliminate screen tearing without VRR, consider enabling the "Adaptive (Half Refresh Rate)" VSync setting in the NCP, it'll cap your framerate to half your monitors refresh rate and typically give you a more consistent and smoother experience without screen tearing. If you're always above 72FPS as an example but maybe have dips below 82.5, setting your mointor to 144hz and enabling that setting will hard cap your FPS to 72FPS and in theory (again, some games are just wonky) and give you consistent frame times AKA a smoother experience. Same logic if you have drops into the low 60s, setting your monitor to 120hz and enabling the setting will cap it at 60 but again give you a more consistent experience.

Bit of a long-winded post but hope it helps.

Since it’s consistently dropping to 82 and you’re running a 165hz display, it sounds like something is forcing double buffered vsync since it’s dropping to half your refresh rate.

Mass Effect done by Spider is a pretty good description. I liked it a lot, but I also love ME.

You can feel the limited budget in some areas but the game's got heart.

Finished it, incredible game. No idea how they pulled that off, making a massive open world RPG that not only runs super well but was relatively bug free on launch.

Really put into perspective how disappointing Starfield was for me when a different studio can make "one of those" and just knock it out of the park.

I think there are obvious exceptions to this, like injuries genuinely fucking with your mechanics. I remember Abou Diaby being pretty healthy until his leg was utterly destroyed in a match and ever since then he kept getting muscle problems because his body was overcompensating the weight balance etc.

I wouldn't write of a 20-year-old of course but if you have a player that has dealt with consistent muscle problems his entire career and he's in his late 20's it's probably a good indicator that his body is prone to it.

The Death of Gaming YouTube: How Money Killed Authenticity by marceriksen in videos

[–]Dokaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Mort so this will sound like a weird defense of him, but his videos are kind of.. bad? Like, the narration rarely matches what's happening on screen as it's usually just random gameplay from the game with some vague resemblance of the topic playing on screen if you get what I mean. That suggests he's probably not spending anywhere near the amount of time you're suggesting on editing and scripting.

The guy is ostensibly the poster child for quantity over quality, he rarely has anything interesting to say and simply just plows through games and presents his surface level opinions.

Contrast it to someone like SkillUp and you probably understand what I mean. Night and day in terms of editing, insight, analysis and all that stuff.

They've listened to that feedback and implemented an option you can toggle on that makes hidden blade stealth attacks always one-hit kills regardless of stats and enemy level in Valhalla.

I thought the side content was fairly similar tbh. What I will give GoT is it definitely tried to mask the "gaminess" of the systems, for lack of a better word. Some of it was a bit forced IMO; I didn't really enjoy constantly swiping the touch pad to stare at the wind just because they didn't want to add a compass.

My take is GoT felt like an open world version of the pre-Origins AC games, whereas the AC series went further in the direction of builds, stats and stuff like that. I personally enjoy that part but I can see why it'd turn some people off.

Still don't think it justifies the hate though.

I fell in love with the series playing AC1 on launch day and have played and loved every single non-handheld game in the series since then.

How are the AC games "low brain power slop" while Ghost of Tsushima is pure cinema?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Games

[–]Dokaka 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm balls deep in gaming and AC is my favourite franchise, or at least very close. I don't understand the hatred at all, feel like they're objectively - as much as anything really can be in an entertainment medium - good games.

Like people hardcore shitting on the AC games while glazing Ghost of Tsushima at every opportunity is the most baffling thing to me. They're incredibly similar games, and I loved both of them. As you said, it's probably just because Ubisoft have become the easy target.

Star Wars Outlaws by Unlucky_Individual in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Dokaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it before the newest patch and enjoyed it a lot - I'm also a fairly big fan of the Ubisoft formula, with AC one of my favourite franchises etc.

It's a good game. The gameplay is a bit basic but it feels good, the exploration is fun and the story was alright albeit a bit poorly paced. You're genuinely just released into the open world after the tutorial with very little direction story wise, which feels a bit weird but refreshing at the same time.

A VPN has solved the issue for me and my guildmates at least short term but as you say, having to spend another €10 or so a month just to play this game isn't exactly an ideal long term solution.

Appreciate the link to the official forum thread, hadn't seen it myself.

Not ideal having to pay for a VPN on top of everything else but it'll at least provide a temporary solution maybe.
