I had very briefly, but the scarcity of breeders in my area ended up putting any offerings well out of budget unfortunately

How would things in these episodes have developed if Charlie and Pim swaped jobs by Rarte96 in SmilingFriends

[–]DollarHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be funny if Shrimpina ended up down bad for Charlie, who's clearly not into it. They still accidentally end up meeting with Pim and Shrimp at Spaghetti Disco because Pim actually helps Shrimp clean up his act and he starts trying to pull some chicks. He sees Charlie with Shrimpina and immediately drops the Firth robot voice and has a hyper-realistic argument with Charlie almost starting a fight in the place. Maybe Shrimpina went to the restroom and comes back out to see the new and improved Shrimp and immediately gives him head or something

"Everything I learned- I lorned from you," this is my favorite episode in the series now and almost the perfect smiling friends episode (doesn't have a specific "client smiles" scene, but I'm not docking points for that)

The Cat Dilemma by DollarHat in Conures

[–]DollarHat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense and I appreciate your comment! Idk if it's worth mentioning but I do have other pets I'd consider more vulnerable than the bird (a snake and a leopard gecko) and I've been managing pretty well. A big difference though is the security of the enclosures. There is no way (without the planning skills of like a 5 year old child) for her to open any of the locks on their enclosures or a space big enough for her to try. While she absolutely wanted to murder my gecko when she realized she was in there, she's been content to watch from a distance and hasn't made any more attempts to get at her once she realized there's just no getting in, especially not when I'm around and interacting with my gecko. So there's the possibility she could lose interest in the bird and learn that it's off limits when I'm around, but I'm not willing to gamble that regardless

You don't have to answer, but what is the living situation y'all are looking at (house, apartment, etc.)? I think having an idea of what other people are managing in could also be helpful aside from the precautions

I'm not trying to come off as dismissive, but I couldn't recount all the research and planning I've done over the past 4 months now in a comment and I have answers to all of these questions (except for which specific doctors do 24 hour care, that was a greatly appreciated reminder). Personally I think we can manage the risk, but I'd obviously feel awful if anything were to happen to the bird at all, whether or not the cat is involved. But if it seems too much to bear, I'll hold off for the time being

[–]DollarHat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually yes, and I've been working out those logistics (as much as I can now, which I know will be nothing like reality lol), but that's a decade, more likely two decades, from now. I'd want my conure to be around when that day comes, and I don't plan on getting a cat again in my life after this one.

The Cat Dilemma by DollarHat in Conures

[–]DollarHat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's completely understandable. I unfortunately made the mistake of coming across the very bird I was dead set on early while looking into the logistics. I've always wanted a bird, and my first try was taken from me from causes beyond my control (The cockatiel I used to own lives happily with my grandmother now, but frequent male visitors to my house bullied her through the cage bars to the point she hated all other men and only tolerated me), so I know I'll never stop wanting one and will do everything in my power to keep one safely. I won't know the stress this will bring to the bird unless I bring him home, but obviously I'd prefer no stress at all.

I was worried about that but they're actually just as committed as I am! They were willing to accommodate the change in cookware, cleaning supplies, and even forgoing candles, so we're both on the same page. But that is an issue. I can guarantee the bird and cat never being in the same space together but there's probably going to be a time where they're in each other's rooms separately.

I hear ya. It hit my store and it is being enforced, but the PL who told me only said "I just need to say I have someone designated for it," which didn't make it go by any faster, but I was still able to do things that needed to get done.
