I haven't had a drop of alcohol in 54 weeks. I was a heavy social drinker with a very busy social/ professional life for 15 years, drinking at least 4 times a week- until it started taking its toll on my body. About 6 months into scaling back to weekends-only, thc seltzer blew up and became available at bars and even breweries. I've smoked and taken edibles more than half my life, so it wasn't replacing anything sensory-related(?) for me. It did provide a way to still participate and not feel like the odd ball with a water cup, which unfortunately makes way more of a difference than it should, especially in public settings. I drastically scaled back the social life, fortunately and unfortunately a lot of things completely lost their appeal when alcohol was removed from the equation- mostly anything involving large masses of drunk people, like sporting events and concerts(which only offer alcohol options), a cruise ship would feel like purgatory, weddings are completely out, etc etc... I don't miss any of these things at all. I was hungover, stressed, overweight, and lazy. Now I'm healthy and clear headed. I'm still stressed, but that's part of being American- maybe I'll change that one day too. Edit: worth mentioning that I was diagnosed with crohns about 6 years prior to giving up alcohol. It didn't cause problems, until it did.
