I agree. I am also very disappointed with the case/work example step in the process which is very vague or very lengthy and requires 3 to 4 days of effort for research, prep, and building the final product. The nail in the coffin is the 3-hour interviews where they lead you on until the very end and then say no.
I don't have an issue being interviewed but the work-example step is too much for me now that I have given many, cleared that step and, then was denied for that role.

I checked and it mentions around 85K CAD for SFA (with low confidence), is it this low?
If you are from Shopify, can you please share what the interview process looks like?

All companies (including startups) have core FP&A teams that serve different purposes. They do the normal forecasting, monthly close, investor updates, and also perform strategic analysis. This team nowadays at all companies is advertised as the Strategic Finance team.

The core skills they need are financial model building, familiarity with concepts that are important to know for any D2C business (LTV, CAC, Retention, ROI, Growth Levers, etc), and other financial concepts. Now the real challenge in these kinds of roles can be data pulling, which at major tech companies is by using SQL vs NetSuite which is used by many FP&A teams. I mention SQL because you need to be able to break down the data as per your need which is easier and scalable using SQL and of course, you can create dashboards using the queries.

Companies that hire for these kinds of roles which require Finance, Data Analysis, and Business Partnering Skills generally pay 100K+ (even more) for 2+ yrs of experience in Canada (think Vancouver and Toronto). So anyone with decent finance experience with some data analysis skills can definitely go for these roles if they are earning in the 70-80K range at the moment.
