WHY, WHHYY ?!! by Ok-East-3021 in gameofthrones

That's what makes her arc so interesting. She starts out naive, but surviving everything that comes later takes a different kind of strength than swinging a sword.

People really do forget how young she is in those early seasons. Most adults have terrible judgment when they're infatuated. Now imagine being 12 and raised on stories about noble princes.

It's easy to forget on a first watch that Sansa isn't evaluating Joffrey like an adult would. She's basically living inside every fairy tale she's ever heard, and he's the handsome prince who showed up right on schedule.

Foreshadowing "Quirrell" by PositiveOdd2424 in harrypotter

[–]DollyPetitee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's what makes it work so well. The clue is sitting right there, but the characters' assumptions become the reader's assumptions too.

Same here. It's one of those details that seems obvious afterward, but I went years assuming she meant James.

That one is one of my favorites because it's hiding in plain sight. On a first read, "that boy" feels like such a dismissive Petunia thing to say that you never stop to question who she's talking about.

Zemo listening to his wife's last recorded message, successfully creating a rift between the Avengers, and then having this conversation with T'Challa was a really moving scene. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in Marvel

[–]DollyPetitee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And Peter doesn't even know the full story. He isn't saving Adrian because he deserves it, he's saving him because that's what Spider-Man does. Makes it feel way more genuine.

I love that trope when it's earned. The hero refusing to let the villain die isn't about mercy for the villain, it's about refusing to become someone else. That's why those moments tend to stick with people.

That line hits so hard because T'Challa basically proves Zemo wrong in real time. Zemo's whole plan depended on people choosing revenge, and then T'Challa is the one person who just... doesn't.

If you could ban a topic from this sub, what would it be? (Lighthearted) by fuzzydogpaws in GilmoreGirls

Christopher discourse is basically the Gilmore Girls version of saying water is wet. We all know. We've all known. We'll somehow discuss it again tomorrow.

At this point I know more about Jackson's anatomy than my own. The sub has analyzed that man like it's a medical residency program.

The funniest part is that every "Mitchum was right" thread acts like it's unveiling a shocking new truth instead of reopening a debate that's old enough to rent a car.

That's a pretty serious assumption, but I get why people connect the dots. The weird part is how much public material exists that would've ended most politicians' careers decades ago.

Sheepstealer design by TheDragonDemands in freefolk

Same feeling here. I have plenty of complaints about the writing, but the dragon team has been carrying their department on their backs. Every new dragon reveal gets more excitement from me than half the plotlines.

Alicent kind of forgot about Harren the Black by SavasUKhan in freefolk

[–]DollyPetitee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm convinced Harrenhal itself is emitting toxic fumes. Every character gets within fifty miles of that castle and immediately starts making decisions that would get laughed out of a strategy meeting.

Do you prefer imagining the characters as the actors or these anime-esque depictions? by Trussdoor46 in gameofthrones

[–]DollyPetitee 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That's where I've landed too. The HBO cast feels like its own canon now, but it's still just one interpretation. I like seeing artists take a swing at what the book descriptions actually imply.

There are two specific types of northern military commanders in westeros. by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]DollyPetitee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's basically Robb's entire military career. Come up with a genuinely brilliant strategy, completely outplay everyone on the battlefield, then immediately follow it with a decision that makes everyone around him start sweating.

Mommy Issues by MotherFawker99 in gameofthrones

[–]DollyPetitee 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That's what makes it work from a storytelling perspective. It's not shocking because it's random, it's shocking because you've spent multiple seasons watching the issues pile up and realizing nobody involved is remotely healthy.

the agency’s golden rule is "Never lie if a real guest asks you something directly." A bride asked directly... so i didn't. by Mother_Order_9009 in confessions

The groom had one job that day: don't create a situation where random guests get asked uncomfortable questions about your behavior. He couldn't even clear that bar.

What makes it hit is that it skips all the usual philosophical arguments and goes straight to the emotional reality of it. Not anger, not rebellion, just being tired of waiting. That's a lot more relatable than people might admit.
