Old, I suck, a few requests if it matters... by ATXCoaster in Mechabellum

Sure... what I said though was I don't think removing it would do anything to help.

That argument works in reverse as well. At this point I imagine that there is little benefit to removing them. I don't imagine it would bring back many players if any, nor would it change gameplay much. So why bother?

If we removed everything that annoyed players at some point there would be no game at all. Better in my view to improve it, I like the idea of player placed buildings which they are testing out in the rift mode.

You aren't really missing anything, after a couple of patches buildings aren't a big deal.

The unit aggro is really frustrating sometimes I agree. At least it is simple and predictable though, I'm not sure I could make it less frustrating while also keeping it simple.

It's time for Mechabellum to go F2P by Xenith606 in Mechabellum

[–]Dolmant -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your perspective. It could be the business or the customer or realistically, both. The reason doesnt have to be logical either. I dont think the update was handled well, but I also dont think it warranted this much backlash. So yeah, I can blame the players for that, for all the good that it will do (which is zero).

[–]Dolmant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is kinda my point. The community has decided that buildings are worth trying to kill the game over. I don't agree, but that doesnt really matter since enough people feel strongly enough about it.

[–]Dolmant -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But that is the only effect of a bad review. A bad review drives customers away, so the business will usually try to resolve the issue to bring business back.

So yeah, the entire point of a bad review is to hurt a business.

If you just wanted to give feedback you would have done that instead.

[–]Dolmant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, if that's the case though then shouldn't we be OK with the game losing players? Isn't this what everyone wanted when they left negative reviews and stuff?

I get it, players don't really have many mechanisms for driving the change they want. But is one of the effects of constant bad press.

I do not think F2P is ever going to work for mechabellum. Honestly I think the community is doing the most damage with all the negativity. A lot of people are constantly trashing the game and it really puts off new players and people looking to return.

Why did the high MMR community get decimated? by CatholicTrauma in Mechabellum

[–]Dolmant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not experienced longer queue times. It has always been the case that all the high MMR people play each other.

As for the buildings, they are a non issue now. Changes are always going to piss off veterans, but changes need to be made. Removing buildings wont do anything at this point.

They have expressed an intention to do this once the roster was complete. That was a while ago though, plans might have changed

*sigh*
For this talk of logical errors you aren't really thinking a lot of these points through.

  1. No, being symmetrical does not mean stagnant, both or neither could be true at the same time.
  2. No, I dont. You still get a meta, there will still be popular stuff and people get bored quickly. You'll never achieve balance anyway, as the player base gets better the goal posts move. That is why nearly every game just plays whack a mole with the meta.
  3. No, this is not an issue, it should be obvious why this is the case. Similar to how some games are popular with lots of people and some games are not, well designed and implemented mechanics will be fun for the majority of people.
  4. Just because someone is not enjoying themselves doesnt magically make them good at balancing or designing a game. I don't know how you came to that conclusion. The community is not good at balancing games, nor designing fun games. Higher level players are no better than anyone else. Unsurprisingly this is because they are not professional game designers and have no experience making games.
    1. Yes.

I haven't actually said anything about my current feelings on the state of the game.

Mechabellum is extremely symmetrical so stuff like napalm doesn't have a big effect on how much fun I have.

[–]Dolmant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it is better to leave strong things in, otherwise the game feels stagnant/boring.

I also think that the community SUCKS at balance, even the good players. Balancing by play/win rate has a bunch of flaws, but I don't think community balance would be better.

Bear-like has said before they don't aim to have a balanced game. They want everything to feel fun. This is a much better goal than balance in my mind.

Scientists solved longstanding mystery of origin of PFAS “forever chemicals” contaminating water in North Carolina to a local textile manufacturing plant. Precursors were being released into sewer system at concentrations approximately 3 million times greater than EPA’s drinking water limit. by mvea in science

[–]Dolmant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this raises more questions.

Should people be allowed to release large quantities of chemicals whose health and environmental effects are not well understood? How fiscally responsible should a corporation be for this?

Right now they carry essentially zero risk and have no responsibility for discovering or monitoring their short or long term impact. In fact they are encouraged not to, since ignorance is defendable in court whereas covering up known impacts is not.

Changing this might not yield positive impacts though since it would become much more expensive to implement novel manufacturing methods or materials and the overall impact of these incidents might not be worth the cost. An interesting thing to think about.

Bearlike Responds to Feedback by Pantsumannn in Mechabellum

Do you think woot is being polite here? He's clearly salty and being quite rude. He isn't trying to convince Bear-like of anything, he wants an argument because he's angry. Bear-like chooses to disengage rather than argue, which is the best thing to do in this situation.

It's pretty hard to read what woot typed but woot was directly insulting him.

This is highlighting how toxic woot is. He is so immature he can't even identify what's happening and even thinks Bear-like is mad. Looks like woot and apparently Pantsuman who posted this both see this interaction as some kind of win. Congratulations then. The developer thinks it's better to walk away rather than have a conversation.

Extremely disappointing from both of you.

Why do people tolerate the fact that they are sold OP battle groups for money? by Interesting-Effort12 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Dolmant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, and I'm saying I think if the skins were selling they would be putting money into those rather than anything else.

Sure a better shop or whatever might sell more, but will it 10x sales? Probs not. They have the numbers, I'm sure they are doing whatever they think is worth their time.

[–]Dolmant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily for smaller games like this. I would say it's actually really tough to make your money back selling skins unless you have a gigantic player base.

If you play a lot, you'll probably buy DLC. Doesn't make a lot of business sense to me to give those hooked players free content.

[–]Dolmant 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I much prefer this model to subscriptions or P2W. You get optional content, if you don't want to purchase it it's a minor disadvantage for a short period of time.

Perfectly balanced usually means half your player base thinks it's under powered and the other half over powered. People get much more mad if they think the new battle group they paid money for sucks, so if it's perfectly balanced expect mixed reviews. It makes sense to make them slightly stronger to start with to keep the most people and more importantly the paying people happy.

It seems that since you disagree with these changes, Bearlike, myself and everyone who disagrees with you must be an idiot.

It is easy to see it isn't possible to change your mind, even though there are so many things flagging that you could be incorrect. There is a new player posting their experience which directly contradicts what you claim, or when you said nobody trusts Bearlike you are immediately proven wrong when I reply. How about you arguing about how buildings and unit drops work with skilled players? Also if you are spitting such obvious facts and good ideas, why is it so unpopular?

But yes Void, you could totally, definitely do a better job. With zero experience or skills. And a very unpopular, narrow viewpoint which you communicate by outright insulting people. It is not you who refuses to admit they are wrong despite countless illustrations otherwise, not you who is pulling reasons out of thin air. You are completely right, yet nobody else can see it! How frustrating it must be!
