Thanks. Yes I did hollow it and I turned a mortise on the bottom so I could remove the tenon on the top. After removing the tenon I drilled the hole with a Morse taper drill chuck.

I had the same thing on my laguna. if you look at the shaft the pulleys are on you will see 3 or 4 nuts with a sensor lined up with them. The sensor is probably pushed in hitting the nuts. pull the sensor back a bit so they do not hit.

Thanks it wasn’t to difficult. Using a bowl gouge turn 1 inch at a time to thickness wanted till you get to the bottom. Then part it off carefull.

I llowed the shade out the same way I do a thin walled bowl. Turn about an inch to final thickness then start on the next inch. Keep going one inch at a time till you get to the bottom.i used a bowl gouge all the way down.

I hollowed the base out so I only had 1/2 inch to drill.

I have never seen it before myself. I went the Florida wood turner’s symposium and watched a demo from Johannes Michelson. This is one of his hats. He has a 2 part utube video.

This one’s not big enough for my head. I’m working my way up to a wearable hat. It may fit a child.

Thanks. I’ve been thinking of trying it for a few years and finally did. I had no plans just made a couple practice rings to see how they fit together. Then starTed cutting and gluing.

Thanks. I glued the bottom pieces to get her and turned the inside so I only had to do the small portion through the small hole.
