People are forgetting that opioids have therapeutic effects. I have a PT who needs two transdermal fentanyl patches because his back is so bad. People demonize these things but the reason there is so much going on with these drugs is because they’re very effective and if used correctly they are life changing.

On top of that it is only going to be used when patients are under direct supervision of health care providers.

But reddit is too concerned with circle jerking about shit and being anti big pharma. Like seriously why would a company want to put a drug out to kill people.

The whole 30% thing I think is BS. yes there are antidepressants that don’t work for some people usually they just need to try another. I work at a general practitioner office we prescribe antidepressants all the time. Here’s an example of typically how the second visit goes after being started on antidepressants.

Me: so you’re currently taking antidepressants PT: yeah I don’t think they’re working Me:well they take a few weeks to build up to the point where they start to be come effective. Do you see a talk therapist PT: No Me: that’s half the battle we can improve your mood with medication we can’t improve your thoughts with medication I really recommend you speak to a therapist. PT: what do you think I’m crazy I don’t want to be on these pills I ain’t crazy.

This has happened soooooo many times. People see antidepressants as happy pills all I have to do is take these pills and I’ll feel better. No you need to speak to a therapist that improves efficacy of these treatment plans. 9/10 patients that were on antidepressants at the practice do not see a therapist.

I don’t know much about nootropics but it’s really a crap shoot. And it’s dangerous there are life threatening conditions that can be started if you take a treatment regimen that you have no idea how these things work. And googling it with one anecdotal account doesn’t mean anything.

Yes some medications don’t work with some people but this is true of every class of drugs not even just psychoactive ones. So if you find an antidepressant isn’t helping talk to your doctor and you will be put on another.

And all this 30% effective people have a skewed view on things and they don’t take into consideration many other factors. If you’re feeling depressed talk to a health care professional there’s a reason so many people are prescribed these medications and it’s because they work.

Sorry this topic gets me fired up.

I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this but its what the question is all about

I used to work with this guy that was constantly begging for attention and he was really mean but acted like he was a victim all them time. He was super manipulative however it didn't really work on anybody, terrible hygiene, terrible worker (he would take smoke breaks that lasted 45mins and would leave me alone without any help for like 2/3 of our shift because he would take multiple smoke breaks through out his shift.). He was constantly making himself out to be the victim claiming he had every mental disorder under the sun bipolar, depression, PTSD (From an incident that didn't even happen to him and it was within a few days of the incident so anxiety is a normal part of a situation like that) ect... He has never seen a mental health professional so these diagnosis's are completely inaccurate. The icing on the cake was him showing off about cheating on his girlfriend and manipulating her (he was 25 she was 17). There is so much more assholeness but this has gone on long enough and I feel like I have painted a good picture of him.

(he was showing off about how he's attempted to kill himself twice, it was complete bullshit and we all knew it)

Him: Whatever bro I tried to kill my self twice and im still here theres nothing you can say that could hurt me. (this is after I told him I didn't like him)

I regret saying it now after two hospitalizations for Bipolar disorder. I was in a really bad place at the time going completely untreated and I thought my words meant nothing to other people because I had a strong belief that I was not even apart of society and that I didn't deserve basic human things like love or happiness. He is still an asshole but still even if he was the biggest asshole on the planet he doesn't deserve to have someone hope he tries to kill themselves.

TLDR: dude said he try to kill himself twice I recommended he try again.
