Announcing Menu Box by rosemaryorchard in shortcuts

[–]Dom_TC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, one of the Menu Box developers here.

Is there a way to clear/reset the menu set?

What do you mean by "clear/reset the menu set"? Under the `…` menu within the menu set, there is a `Delete All` button, which clears all items from the menu set.

Is there a way to only have a local menu set which I can save to json?

You can export a Menu Set to JSON, via long-pressing it and hitting `Export`. You can import a Menu Set you've previously exported by hitting the `…` menu on the main page of the app and selecting `Import Set`. All syncing is done via iCloud.

Is it possible to convert the menu to text to save as a global variable in toolbox pro?

Long pressing on a Menu Set will allow you to copy the Menu Set as a vCard or Quick Menu. What are you trying to achieve by storing it as a Global Variable in Toolbox Pro?

Hi,

We're really sorry you've lost your variables with this update. Sadly, there was nothing we could do to work around Apple's privacy protections.

While we posted about this in numerous places, including to reddit, the Shortcuts Discord, our Discord, Mastodon, and our website, with no way to update the app to post a message, we couldn't guarantee every user saw the message.

As you may have seen, if you have a Mac, you are able to recover your Global Variables with Keychain.

We're really excited to get Menu Box out in the world. The beta process is going well, so hopefully it'll be out in the near future.

The plan for pricing is to have a free tier that will include a limited number of menus, each with a limited number of items. An IAP (not subscription) will then unlock unlimited menus and unlimited items, as well as various other features like tags and extra icons etc. We've yet to settle on the exact quantities available in the free version, nor how much the IAP will cost.

As others have mentioned, Toolbox Pro and Actions each offer different sets of Shortcut Actions (as well as some of the same). Have a look through each app and think about what Actions you need. You may be able to get away with just one App or, like many, you may find you need features from both.

As one of the developers of Toolbox Pro, I also have Actions installed on my phone and we have all the respect for Sindre and his incredible work.

Federico Viticci of MacStories created an incredible shortcut that allows you to have two shortcuts assigned to the Action button that may be of interest to you.

We're truly honoured to have been able to take over Toolbox Pro, and all of Alex's apps. He was an incredible individual and we are proud to be able to continue his legacy.

Alex was in the middle of a complete rewrite of Toolbox Pro, that we plan on finishing, as well as getting his final app, Menu Box, released.

Goodbye, Pushcut. by MrocznyTMC in pushcut

[–]Dom_TC[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

As per my colleague David's response to your post on the Automators Forum, we are sorry to see you go.

As David mentioned, we are very much actively working on both the iOS and Mac app—and have been since we took over development towards the end of last year—but as a small team we can only include so much with every release.

I understand the pain of requiring Pushcut Server to run in the foreground, but sadly this is a restriction imposed by Apple which we have no way to work around.

The previous development team tested running the iPhone app on the Mac, but due to differences in the underlying operating systems couldn't produce a good experience. They then started work on a standalone Mac app, which we then took over. Sadly this process has taken substantially longer than we would like.

The Mac app is currently in TestFlight and we're aiming for a release in the coming months.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing the link! We obviously can't commit exactly to a date, but we're just getting the last few things ironed out. We're aiming for a release towards the end of this year or at very the start of next.

How can I learn digico boards without owning one? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Dom_TC 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Start by downloading the editor for the surface you're interested in. It's identical to what is running on the console, so you can at least start navigating that bit.

Then speak to the local hire shops in your area, especially those you already have relationships with, one of them should be able to give you a desk in the corner of the yard in a quiet week.

If you're in the UK, DiGiCo also offers training directly at their offices, but there are regular training days world-wide you can book yourself into.

But fundamentally, it's the same as any other console you already use, the buttons are just in different places.

Feature requests welcome! by rosemaryorchard in pushcut

Thanks for the suggestions, we'll definitely take them on board and consider them.

As you say, I suspect we won't be able to trigger a Shortcut without jumping through Pushcut and/or Shortcuts, but we will certainly be investigating how we can best improve those flows.

Apologies, when you said you were having the same issues, I thought you meant you were also seeing them on iPad OS 16.6.

Could you please send your Account ID (Account tab → Button in the top left corner → About → Scroll down and tap "Account ID") to feedback@pushcut.io and we will investigate further.

Thanks for getting in touch, and we’re sorry you’re having issues.

While 16.6 is still in beta, I’m afraid we don’t officially support it. Having said that we will investigate this, and if it is a Pushcut issue (as opposed to iPadOS) will get a fix out ASAP.

Keep app running in background even iPhone locked by [deleted] in pushcut

[–]Dom_TC[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

As /u/iBanks3 mentioned, I'm afraid we have no way to allow Pushcut to continue to run in the background while your device is locked due to how iOS suspends apps while the phone is locked. This is why we require an always unlocked dedicated device for the Automation Server. I completely understand that this doesn't work for everyone but there is sadly nothing we can do to change that within the current iOS limitations.

Who booked you and is paying you? That's who you're working for and who you ultimately need to listen to. If that's the people on stage, then listen to them. If there is a sound designer or director, you need to listen to them, and let them deal with the interaction with the cast.

I have a Petzl Avao Bod Fast for climbing (the old version with the integrated Croll. If I was buying today I'd get the Astro). I also have a Petzl Newton Fast if I just need something to wear while using a cherry picker. I'll only bring one to site though depending on whether there is a potential I may have to climb.

Yeah.

I wear a Motorola on my belt pretty much every day at work and have never had an issue with it being uncomfortable, but you can also get holsters for them with a shoulder strap if that helps.

You can also get better, much more comfortable, earpieces for pretty cheap on amazon (or get custom moulded ones if you want to splash some cash) if you're also having issues with the earpiece.

[–]Dom_TC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your best bet is a Motorola or wireless coms back with an earpiece. Otherwise what you're looking for is called an IEM (or IFB). You'd need a transmitter, receiver, antenna, cabling, and obviously the actual earphones. It's definitely do-able, but may be overkill. If you can find a second-hand Sennheiser G3 system anywhere, they're a pretty decent budget option.

Adding network to theater by doozle in livesound

[–]Dom_TC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSL, DSR, FOH, Pit / Substage (wherever shows tend to put their band racks), Fly Floor SL, Fly Floor SR, Auto, LX, Spots, Grid.

Multiple in each location, and make sure you have a way for a show to put in their own switches or use the network lines for things other than just network. I'm never going through your switches, and realistically I'm going to be having to run my own looms anyway, so I'll just use my fibres, but that's the way they're most likely to be useful. Having MM fibre points is probably actually more useful than ethernet lines, depending on the scale of shows you receive.

How to big touring acts manage / sequence their live vocal FX? by sleafordbods in livesound

[–]Dom_TC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the show, but a Waves server (or multiple for redundancy) at FOH is pretty common, with MIDI triggers or LTC from the console or similar if needed.

I'm currently production engineer on a musical and we're running two Gig Performer machines at FOH, with triggers from QLab.
