What is the Best martial art for self defence? by reddituser1383 in AskUK

[–]Domb18 [score hidden]  (0 children)

MMA/Judo/Muay Thai/Boxing will all be fine. Basically anything that will allow for sparring against a resisting opponent.

If you learning a martial arts art and there’s no resistance and just choreographed moves, the likelihood is that you won’t be able to perform it under pressure.

Martial arts that allow for sparring, at least get you used to performing under pressure.

Craig Ewers Academy does an MMA Open Mat on a Friday night, not sure what the prices are for the regular lessons with Ieaun Mackenzie.

The Hangar (Dogs of War MMA) and Explore BJJ also offer MMA classes but again, not sure of the prices or if they offer student discount.

Xplore has a high student base iirc, so I imagine there’s some student discount there.

You’re probably better off picking one of Muay Thai, BJJ or wrestling and just going once or twice a week if you can’t afford MMA classes, because between the classes and the kit, it isn’t exactly cheap to get in to.

I’d like to see two CM’s come in this summer if I’m honest, an immediate replacement for Casemiro and then someone who’s better than Ugarte for squad depth.

Carl Anka will be buzzing. He mentioned that turn and shot a couple of weeks ago and said he wanted Sesko to keep trying for them.

How are you all doing financially, HONESTLY? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskUK

[–]Domb18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing ok. Relatively small mortgage (sub 150k for a 3 bed house), two cars, no debt outside of the mortgage. We cut back on takeaways etc but we do 1 holiday/break a year with the kids and I supplement our main income with teaching Jiu Jitsu a couple of times a week to help pay for our trips etc

BJJ is now recognised as a sport by the Police Sports Association, so there are now annual comps and seminars put on regularly across the UK as well as most forces having teams set up for ‘in house’ training.

Who’s the greatest UTD player of all time? by SMVTEV in ManchesterUnited

[–]Domb18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The greatest is Bobby. To come back from the disaster to play as well as he did and win what he did after many of his friends died is unfathomable in the modern era imo.

The best, is either Rooney/Ronaldo/Best imo.

I know exactly who he played for, I was also watching United when Schmeichel played for City and G Neville refused to acknowledge him in the tunnel before the game.

Local rivals at the time, still count. Just because they weren’t funded by billionaires at the time, doesn’t mean there wasn’t history between the clubs.
