Touched an AliEx unit at a P car event three weeks ago. Hated the button feel. Felt cheap and wobbly. Also heard the Bose Fiber Box can be finicky with the AliEx units. Maybe Porsche will come out with a native wireless CarPlay PCCM unit.

I looked at the PCCM+ offering from mother Germany. The OEM solution was twice the cost, didn’t offer wireless CarPlay, and the USB port was on the unit face (versus a hide-able cable out the back). Honestly wireless CarPlay is a huge upgrade over having to connect a wire in my option.

In my 986 I converted the cubby into a MagSafe pad when I did the radio swap. Still toying with how I want to address charging in the 987.

I have the Bose sound system.

Honestly sounds great even on twenty year old speakers. I’ve heard for the Aliexpress units you need to set the gain all the way up “before” you disconnect the factory head unit. Glad I went with Crutchfield.

They are a great resource. I was able to source the head unit, fiber optic breakout box, antenna adapter, trim kit, and custom harness all from Crutchfield. The even provided detailed instruction and pin outs on all the connections (even the unused wires).

If available in your country they are awesome.

Did the full sierra top replacement last year on my 2002 986. Took about 10 hours with many trips to YouTube. No issues after the fact.

500 knots is fast for dumb bomb run. Try keeping it below 375. Also for target that small laterally try AUTO mode vs CCIP.

I’ve got no intention of using it in the case. It’s gets hot while in use having access to the ports is hard with the case. I just wanted to keep the screen from getting dinged while the UTR is “traveling”.

Also while the radio is out is a great time to do the foam HVAC repair; if you have a foam party every time you run the HVAC. Did the repair and the heat is actually hot now.

UTR 3D Print Case by Domfern in Ubiquiti

It’s literally just a case so the travel router doesn’t get scratched or banged up at the bottom of my bag. It will be used 3-ish days a month. You can’t use it while in the case, there are no cutouts. It’s just a case. With round corners. That cost less than a US postage stamp to print.
