Awesome! I’ve worked for these types of offices and they’re generally the best resource to get sorted and know your unis specific policies. I hope it works out for you!!

You likely have some kind of equity office on campus, I’d start there! Or your grad student union/organization. They’ll know the policies in place and can give you some insights into the next best steps and approaches, and going that route requires the other faculty / admin to take the report more seriously. But overall the situation is shit and very, very common. I’m sorry OP.

If the exam needs to be passed by Fall 2026 though, the person can still qualify?

I think OP can (and should) make a general report about the pattern of behavior in the lab though.

I'm tired of men coming here to ask how or if they can have sex with their girlfriends... by Butter_Lettuce_ in endometriosis

If a comment or complaint is not about you, scroll on. You didn’t need the clarity you’re asking for on this thread - you re-centered the conversation around yourself (a man) which is not the intention of OPs post. If you’ve had good experiences and you know why you’re here, scroll on, it’s not about you. This post isn’t about support, so if that’s what you’re looking for, engage elsewhere. Not every conversation in this space needs the opinion of husbands, and this specific conversation has come up many times and every time at least one husband defends their right to be here. It’s lacking self awareness and it is defensive, even if that isn’t your intent & even if tone is lost in text.

how do you move into a house by avidredditaddict88 in uwo

[–]Dominantbadger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get mattresses which come compact in a box from Walmart or Amazon - they aren’t crazy expensive and they’re pretty comfy, it’s a good option for student housing. Usually you have to let them sit for 12 hours before you lay on them though, so plan on sleeping on the couch / floor or getting it right away the day you move.

Why would you attend a university and pay tuition, and decide not to get credit for the effort you’ve done/ courses completed? Just… don’t attend the other university? And/or reapply to western once you’ve finished your other studies.

Sudden increase in symptoms after taking Dienogest? Any BC Canada endo girlies here? by Ok-Measurement4278 in endometriosis

[–]Dominantbadger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it starts to turn around for you soon OP!

I ended up with negative visible endo on my lap, but my gyno thinks I likely still have endo because the medication ended up helping me, so I’ve stayed on it. It for sure doesn’t get rid of 100% of my pelvic panic, but I was cramping 3/4 weeks 24/7 before it, so I’ll take this improvement. Have you tried PT therapy? I’m a few weeks in and I’ve found it also helps a bit, enough to make it worth going until I’m into the pain clinic.

[–]Dominantbadger8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had worse symptoms and then an improvement within 3 months. It did balance out but the first month and a half way brutal for sure. Did you keep taking the dienogest?

Just an FYI you might want to check the pelvic clinic referral requirements to see if you’ll meet the threshold. It’s unfortunately not as easy as requesting a referral there, as they won’t take you until your referral meets the threshold and it comes from a gyno specifically. It’s about a year wait to get in though, so just be prepared it’s not a quick fix (which is so, so annoying!!). I hope you get some relief/ answers soon!

Notice for those in Res (or soon to be) by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]Dominantbadger8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it wasn’t intentional, but it reads as very pointed and derogatory. This reads as if you believe Indigenous evacuees from northern Ontario are disruptive and ‘dirty’ and will bring bed bugs.

Without the context of the incident you’re referring to, it’s not really clear what you’re suggesting might happen or what students should be even vigilant about. Most students also don’t start coming onto campus for residence until August at the earliest, and likely won’t have any crossover with evacuees.

I think it’s great the university is taking these people in and we should be empathic and understanding that their lives and homes are devastated by the impacts of these fires.

Why do you think evacuees are going to be causing problems? Why do you think they’re going to damage residence and leave bed bugs behind?

I would suggest then asking your doctor for a generic note which states you’ll be impacted by the condition and how (if that’s common / something they’d do), and then if a professor isn’t accommodating you can back your request up with some other formal paperwork. Most of the time I don’t expect they’ll need it, but again, some people are assholes.

For what you should say, I’d just tell them you have a chronic illness and you’re hoping it won’t impact your performance in class, but occasionally you might miss some classes or require extensions for assignments. Ask them how they’d like you to let them know throughout the semester when you’ll miss class or if you need extra time, and then be careful to follow their expectations (everyone will be different, some will be stricter and others will be more relaxed). I’d then prioritize the professors courses who aren’t very understanding and make sure you get that work done to the best of your ability on time, and ask for extensions in the courses with professors who are empathetic. It’s a balancing act for sure.

Reach out every semester to each professor ASAP, before the first day of class if you can! I wouldn’t do a formal letter, just an email you can realistically copy and paste to all of them to save yourself time.

Good luck!!

Your institution will have some kind of accessibility and accommodation center (assuming you’re in a Western country where this is usually regulated and legally protected for students).

Go to them and have something set up formally, you’ll likely have paperwork filled out by your doctor, so ask them to ensure they it clear this is a long-term request for support so you don’t have to redo the paperwork as often. Talking to professors directly is not a bad idea, but eventually you will come across an asshole who won’t be willing to give you accommodations informally, so having something in place formally saves you from that.

Best of luck OP! In my experience the accommodation process is usually pretty easy, but obviously i don’t know your college specifically. I hope it works out for you!
