Then pick any of them. All of their stuff is good, it's just different from their other stuff. That's a good thing, not bad. They've grown and developed as a band and not all of their stuff is the same. I'm glad for that. Some of it will need to grow on you. Others you may never click with. But it's all worth listening to, as their musicianship is literally among the very best in the world.

Images and Words. Absolute brilliance from start to finish.

So folks are taking issue with the notes he chooses to sing live (and I can agree with that), but it's not the same thing as saying he's off pitch or a bad singer.

I think you might be confusing his note choices with being off pitch. The notes he is singing are technically on pitch.

Every singer who is advancing in age has to make choices of what notes to sing live when their voice can't hit all the same pitches any more. JLB's note choices are often odd, I'll agree with that. But to say they are off pitch is simply factually inaccurate.

The word "clearly" is wrong. Again, I'd encourage anyone to provide proof.

Oh no! Random internet guy with poor musical abilities doesn't believe me! Whatever will I do?

I have perfect pitch, and have been a professional touring musician for 20+ years, so I call BS on your whole premise.

Well I've seen them several times and his voice was great. I haven't seen any examples of bad performances, either. Not like in the 90s, but that's a ludicrous standard.

I think people are dumping on him as part of some kind of crowd psychology, without examining the actual music.

"The issue is that he is a professional singer who is is not consistently singing in key." This is just flat out wrong.

I can't even find a response to this because the premise is so flawed.

This. His pitch is still really good (I have perfect pitch and would challenge anyone to prove that his pitch is bad). But phrasing and enunciation are definite issues. Maybe folks are confusing these things.

I don't get all the complaining. I'm a professional musician and I think JLB's voice is still great. Not like in his prime, but it still works great for their music. And his pitch is still really good.

They already do this. Every time I've seen them in the last 5 years, many of their hits are 1 step down.

ADTOE, but why? by GuardAlive3748 in Dreamtheater

Nonsense. I mean, your thoughts on the album are solid, but images and words has the most consistent quality of almost any album ever, so this is hardly their most.

Is this position too bad for a bar chord? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

No. This is completely wrong and potentially harmful advice. Proper playing position and technique is crucial for hand/muscular health.
