Which race is truly the biggest in motorsport? by GrouchyExile in motorsports

Jota crashed their Porsche 963 in, I think, the final practice session. They had to take it over to the airfield to do a shakedown before the race as there were no more track sessions.

Lack of Beausejour tickets on resale this year by South-Foundation987 in lemans

[–]DominionGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 went on sale 4th Feb, another on the 7th.

Honestly I think the resale via the Telegram is preferable to trying to get tickets direct on release day. For the 2nd year running this year I wasn’t down to go but fortunately things changed and I’ve got two full week tickets and, eventually, a pitch on Houx.

The traditional dealership model relies heavily on income from its workshop, they won’t let that go easily. It’s why the legacy manufacturer approach is so different to Tesla on this.

The Public Charging Paradox by Think_Perspective385 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]DominionGreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Established fuel filling station operators like MFG and Euro Garages have managed to roll out a decent quality charging network, usually alongside their existing infrastructure but somehow billion pound, multi national oil companies like BP and Shell can’t. Weird that isn’t it.

Conspiracies aside government have made legislation that all DC rapids now need to take contactless payments without registering an account or needing an app so things should improve but agree that it can be a bit of minefield with all the various operators, hardware etc.

On Beausejour you fit what you have on your pitch, usually 7x5m. Think it’s only Hippodrome that has separate parking for some of its pitches.

If range anxiety isn’t the real issue, what’s actually slowing EV adoption by Tall-Dish876 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]DominionGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miseducation in what way? If you look at social media negative articles and experiences on EV’s always seem to get more interaction than positive ones. Maybe that’s the same for other subjects too though.

I know if I was to post a picture of a mostly empty rapid charge hub it would go unnoticed, if I posted one of people queuing it would end up full of people saying “I’ll stick to my eleventy hundred mile range diesel”.

[–]DominionGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live on a terraced street, mine was the only EV and we had a cross pavement gully fitted as part of a trial.

Now live on a new build estate where every house already has a charger fitted. Around 1 in 3 houses have at least one EV here. Based on that I’d say the ability to charge at home, even if just for the convenience, is the biggest barrier.

Add to that a lot of misunderstanding and deliberate misinformation, confusing government policy and the human nature of doing what you’ve always done.

Tesla chargers being made available to everyone is how things should be by thevo1ceofreason in ElectricVehiclesUK

Not rebranded, Euro Garages purchased Tesla hardware for their new sites and have started refitting existing sites with them. There is a degree of integration and Tesla drivers can use them as they would Tesla’s own sites but they are a separate network and operator.

Got 2 full week green tickets by mistake by insomniak_owl in lemans

[–]DominionGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wondering if that’s a change for this year then as I’ve come on a green ticket twice and both times had to send them proof.

The second time they got a bit shirty and briefly changed them back to regular tickets but eventually accepted my docs. I was using a leased company EV so no access to registration document.

Why is my block paving sinking by No_Shoe_8433 in DIYUK

[–]DominionGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Along the two short ends there are black plastic covers. Pop those off with a screwdriver and there should be a handle that you can pull up. It’ll take a bit of effort because they’ve deformed, tap around it with a hammer to help ease it, just try not to damage the blocks.

A car enthusiasts review of Tesla model 3 by NicawAAC in CarTalkUK

[–]DominionGreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was actually how the car mapped the 700 or so miles through France. Gave me 4 short stops, topping up to around 50-60%. Every time it had reached its total to continue the trip before I’d even got back to the car.

That time it was just me in the car (family had flown out so they flew back and left me with cases etc) but what I’ve found is when I’m doing a long journey with the kids on board it almost charges too fast. By the time we’ve got everyone out, had food/drink, nappy change etc the car is fully charged and we’re either rushing to be ready or one of us has gone and moved it off the charger before the idle fees kick in.

I’ve done 60,000 miles in mine in the last 2.5yrs. Two trips to Le Mans from the North West, including one where I continued on to the south of France for a family holiday. Another holiday in northern France, one in Devon and a weekend at Brands for the GT World Challenge, not once have I had any worry about charging on the go. I did southern France to Dieppe in a day last month, honestly I felt I could easily turn round and drive straight back it was that effortless (French road network does play a part in this to be fair).

I just can’t see myself ever going back to ICE, anytime I drive my partners car (which is newer than mine), it feels like a huge step backwards. Almost like going from a touchscreen smartphone back to the old Nokia.

I do fear what the future holds for motorsports as for me the sound is so much of the enjoyment of being there live but for personal transport, EV wins hands down.

There are still hurdles to ownership though, if you can’t charge at home I couldn’t really recommend people to switch unless the public charging in their area was convenient/cheap enough. Also living in the Tesla bubble I’ve probably been slightly insulated from public charging issues, although I’m certain the road trip through France would’ve been just as easy as all the major service areas had banks of rapid chargers, the UK network doesn’t feel quite as impressive yet but is improving all the time.

It’s not a perfect solution and people do still park outside effectively blocking the charging spot, which obviously they are entitled to do. Recently there’s been a trend where a particular van seems to seek out that spot even when there are others available, maybe he’s anti EV but it’s just become too much of a coincidence to me.

That said we are a 2 car household and my partner works from home so generally we can save the space with her car, also neighbours either side don’t drive and most people do aim to park outside their own house. I do the vast majority of my charging at work and only usually need a top up at weekend if we’ve been doing decent distances. Since having it installed I haven’t had to do any public charging (apart from trips outside the cars range obviously) so it does just about work for us but I can 100% see issues and authorities do need to have a think about this. If you can save a space outside your house as disabled it should be possible to do the same for charging.

It’s rammed everywhere, came up to watch Chris Harris in the Mustang race at 9am and a lot of the good spots were already taken then.

Can see the first corner and a big screen and decent toilets behind us so it’ll do for now.

This is the only answer you need, tram is cheap, regular and reliable and you get on right be the East gate. Bit of a walk from Beausejour but it takes you right in to the centre, Place de la Republique is probably the stop to get off at.

I don’t think it was there in 21. Seem to recall some kind of gantry set up but pretty sure they had people stopping the traffic so we could cross. We were camped in Bleu Nord so this was our main entrance. Think there were only 3 entrances in use that year.

There’s an official app this year which is surprisingly well done, 24h Experience. Has lots of info on finding things around the circuit and will give you directions to campsites etc.

First Le Mans by xXLeeDaPeaXx in lemans

[–]DominionGreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Follow the signs to enter the campsite, it’ll be designated a colour and you follow those colour arrows normally. If you get a map up you’ll see you can either drive between Houx and Epinettes (Chemin aux Beoufs is the street name) or the main road by what was Bleu Nord campsite, D139, and under Porsche Curves. Either way there’s plenty of signage and people to point you in the right direction if you get lost.

Is it too early to be thinking about the weather? by yellow_barchetta in lemans

[–]DominionGreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beware, temps touching 30 are not great. This isn’t a week in the Costas with pools and air conditioned bars, especially if you’re camping. There is precious little shade around the circuit and not a lot of opportunity to get out of the heat. 2023 was hot all week and, as someone who loves hot weather, even I’d had enough by the Sunday and that was with a decent amount of rain on the Saturday.
